Pentagon Command And Control Will See Major Changes

For at least the last seventy years, the United States has been the world’s Atlas, holding it up. The Pentagon aims to take some of the burden off of us with some major changes.

The Mythology

Atlas and his brother Menoetius sided with the Titans in their war against the Olympians, the Titanomachy. When the Titans were defeated, many of them (including Menoetius) were confined to Tartarus, but Zeus condemned Atlas to stand at the western edge of the earth and hold up the sky on his shoulders.[13] Thus, he was Atlas Telamon, “enduring Atlas”, and became a doublet of Coeus, the embodiment of the celestial axis around which the heavens revolve.[14]

A common misconception today is that Atlas was forced to hold the Earth on his shoulders, but Classical art shows Atlas holding the celestial spheres, not the terrestrial globe; the solidity of the marble globe borne by the Farnese Atlas may have aided the conflation, reinforced in the 16th century by the developing usage of atlas to describe a corpus of terrestrial maps.

Somewhat after WWI and definitely after World War II, foreign powers turned to the United States to help resolve every conflict. Our free money surely helped. Our elites spread United States taxpayers’ dollars around and required nothing or very little in return. Foreign powers had to put fewer of their military personnel at risk and yet still could puff their chests. At the same time, they had our tax dollars to burn and our culture to lambaste. No mas.

From The Washington Post:

Senior Pentagon officials are preparing a plan to downgrade several of the U.S. military’s major headquarters and shift the balance of power among its top generals, in a major consolidation sought by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, people familiar with the matter said.

If adopted, the plan would usher in some of the most significant changes at the military’s highest ranks in decades, in part following through on Hegseth’s promise to break the status quo and slash the number of four-star generals in the military. It would reduce in prominence the headquarters of U.S. Central Command, U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command by placing them under the control of a new organization known as U.S. International Command, according to five people familiar with the matter.

Huzzah! I am sure that you have noticed that the world changes and our needs change, but the Pentagon and its strategy doesn’t change. The State Department too, but Secretary Rubio has that in hand.

They are anemic Socialists because they can afford to be. What if they don’t have our money or our Pentagon to prop them up?

Margaret Thatcher: ‘The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples’ money.’

President Donald Trump finds GREAT people and then gives them room to run. Take for example venture capitalist, Air Force General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan “Raizin” Caine. Speaking of Caine:

Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine is expected to detail the proposal, which has not previously been reported, for Hegseth in the coming days. Such moves would complement other efforts by the administration to shift resources from the Middle East and Europe and focus foremost on expanding military operations in the Western Hemisphere, these people said. Like others interviewed for this report, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the effort before it is conveyed to the secretary.

Hegseth’s team said in a statement that they would not comment on “rumored internal discussions” or “pre-decisional matters.” Any insinuation that there is a divide among officials over the issue is “completely false — everyone in the Department is working to achieve the same goal under this administration,” the statement said.

Apparently, Republicans are feeling a little pouty because they aren’t being consulted or read in to these upcoming changes. Well, I wouldn’t tell them:

The Pentagon has shared little to no details with Congress, a lack of communication that has perturbed members of the Republican-led Senate and House Armed Services committees, according to two people familiar with how the panels have prepared for the proposal. Top officers at the commands involved are awaiting more details as well, officials said.

Secretary Hegseth will tell everyone when they need to be told. Too many people know too much already.

They turned in their press passes. Military families just don’t want them to be traitors and give away important secret information.

Atlas doesn’t need to hold up the whole sky. The United States seems to be maturing under President Trump.

The Brits were in the very nice position after WWI and WWII. WWI was a war “within the system” to change the hierarchy — Germany wanted to supplant the UK (and France) in terms of power, but not necessarily ideology. WWII was a “hegemonic” war for control of the international system in power, ideology, rules and rule-making, etc. The UK was able to hand off the running of the international system in the mid-20th century to the US — an ideologically compatible “junior partner” mentored to become the Chairman and CEO as the UK slid further into economic and military decline. Hegemonic transfer of power without hegemonic war.
As others have and will point out, who’s going to be the junior partner of the US — India (a large but flawed democracy with a poverty and class problem); Brazil (not there yet economically or militarily or politically)? The EU can’t and won’t marshal the will or resources to reclaim Europe’s dominance. China? Better be ready for big shifts in how the world does business if that’s the future.
