Joy Reid Out: MSNBC Says, ‘You’re Fired!’

MSNBC finally cancels Joy Reid—it looks like the new president, Rebecca Kutler, is taking a page from Elon Musk’s playbook for a full-on ‘overhaul.’ But before you pop the champagne, have you heard who’s replacing her? MSNBC clearly knows the meaning of ‘hold my beer.’

Rebecca Kutler stepped into her new role at MSNBC just a few weeks ago, taking over from Rashida Jones. With the network cutting ties with Comcast, MSNBC is no longer playing second fiddle to NBC. Now, a company called SpinCO is calling the shots.

This helps explain the recent so-called ‘big shakeups’ at the network. In addition to canceling Joy Reid’s joyless and racially charged rants, MSNBC is shifting Jen Psaki to primetime and, thankfully, reducing Rachel Maddow to one night a week again.

So, who’s stepping in to replace Joy Reid, you ask? Instead of one deranged talking puppet, we’re getting three. I suppose Joy can find some comfort in the fact that it took three clowns to fill her shoes.

But lest the departure of one of its most prominent progressive voices be taken as some kind of ideological shift, MSNBC is turning to one of its most liberal shows to fill the vacancy left by Reid. Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez — the hosts of MSNBC’s Saturday and Sunday morning show, The Weekend — will take over the 7 p.m. time slot, Mediaite has confirmed. The trio — which has made headlines recently for some fiery left-wing takes — will also host a two-hour edition of their show on Monday nights from 7-9 p.m., on top of the one hour 7-8 p.m. version Tuesday through Friday. – Mediaite

You know who these people are, right?

So, while everyone over on X is celebrating Joy’s exit, the replacements are somehow even worse—and who knew that was even possible?!

MSNBC’s weekend show replacing Joy Reid hands us more material to poke fun at. The new lineup might be a mess, but it’s the kind of mess that keeps us laughing, making every awkward moment prime fodder for jokes. At least we’re never short on things to mock. Keep talking, MSNBC, you’re giving us plenty to work with.

Here is a little taste of what will be happening now in the slot that Joy Reid will be vacating. This is the Weekend Show discussing the new FBI director Kash Patel.

So basically, MSNBC has a younger, cutout version of Joy Reid in Symone Sanders. As for Michael Steele—a former RNC chair who endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 but then flirted with running for Maryland’s governor as a Republican in 2021—the man’s already out of his mind. No surprise there.

And who is Alicia Menendez? Oh, that’s right—she’s the daughter of former Senator and now accused foreign agent Bob Menendez.

Menendez was found guilty in July of extortion, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and acting as a foreign agent after a sensational trial in which prosecutors charged that he accepted bribes — including cash and gold bars — to benefit the governments of Egypt and Qatar. – NBC News

Nice lineup, MSNBC. It almost makes Joy Reid look like Donna Reed—if Donna Reed were constantly ranting about everything under the sun.

And hey, I’ve got an idea for Joy’s next gig—how about teaming up with Don Lemon for a show called LemonJoy: Scrubbing Away All Credibility, One Rant at a Time?
