You knew it had to happen. Someone, somewhere in Hollywood would realize the bottom line was in jeopardy by all the so-called celebrities condemning Israel for taking a hard stance against Hamas. All those elites wearing their white privilege guilt on their sleeves believed themselves invincible. It didn’t take long for one of the most vocal big mouths, Susan Sarandon, to discover she isn’t as untouchable as she believed. United Talent Agency dropped her as a client. It didn’t take long for her to issue an “apology”.

This latest controversy surrounding Sarandon began last month when she spoke at a pro-Palestinian protest in New York City.

She made it very clear in her comments that any violence directed against the “Palestinians” is a war crime but the October 7th was nothing more than an assault. Not that the comment surprised anyone who has followed her pro-Palestinian/pro-Hamas diatribes in the past. In 2021, she was one of a number of celebrities, and I use that term loosely, who signed a letter accusing Israel of an “apartheid occupation” of Palestine. In October of that same year, she called Pope Francis a Nazi, causing the Anti-Defamation League to note that while she might have issues with the Church, “that is no excuse for throwing around Nazi analogies.”

This is only a small sampling. But, unlike this latest episode of opening mouth and inserting foot, Sarandon faced no real pushback. So imagine her surprised when United Talent Agency dropped her this time. That action could have monetary repercussions for her. So what did she do? Initially, she doubled down, showing that while she isn’t afraid to bemoan her white privilege as long as it is for the “right” cause, she doesn’t like being called out for her crass and unfeeling remarks.

Apparently, when two agents from the company called to let her know she was being released, she said the following: “I had no idea you were Zionists.” Can’t you just see the sneer on her lips as she said it and hear the disdain. How dare they not fall into lockstep with her left-wing support for Hamas. How dare they not buy into her revisionist history, not only of that region in the Middle East but in our own country?

Yesterday, she posted her “apology” on Instagram. Honestly, it is one of the weakest mea culpas I’ve ever seen:

How funny she says she wanted to highlight the increase in hate crimes, but she doesn’t mention any except those against Muslims. Where was her outrage for the increase in antisemitic crimes since October 7th? The answer is obvious. Because that increase doesn’t fit the narrative she wants to shove down our throats, it will be ignored.

As for her statement about being committed to truth, I’m not sure she understands the real meaning of that word. Remember, this is the woman who said, “Western media only shows the [Israeli] side. Why do they do that, I will let you deduce for yourself.” I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen a great deal of coverage of the Palestinian side of what’s going on.

Does anyone doubt the only reason she issued the statement is in an attempt to do damage control? She’s never really faced consequences for her left-wing comments and protests. Now, however, her comments have come back to bite her. The proof of whether or not she stands behind her apology will be what she says over the next few weeks and months about the Middle East situation.

Who knows, maybe she will decide the better part of discretion is to stay out of the spotlight for awhile and keep her mouth shut. Not that I’m going to hold my breath waiting to see.
