Semafor’s David Weigel steps up to defend the indefensible in article that is as hackneyed and insulting as you’d expect of a writer who has spent a career slumming around WaPo, Slate and Buzzfeed.
No worries if the “news” site Semafor escaped your notice before this. It was founded only last year by Buzzfeed’s former editor, Ben Smith, and enjoys some infamy with its ties to China’s Communist Party. The name is a too-cute-by-half derivative of “semaphore”.
Judging by Weigel’s piece alone, it certainly is a “visual signaling apparatus” for the Limo & Champagne Bolshevik crowd who need to keep up on what is the latest in acceptable discourse about the anti-Western cultural war discourse. David doesn’t disappoint in taking the usual Lamestream Media framing of any story where non-left heterodoxy arises. David’s story is not about the targeting of children and women by the TQ+ shocktroops has moved into corporate boardrooms, it’s just another variation on the Republican’s pounce framing.
Energized by a boycott of Bud Light — and before that, by Ron DeSantis’s parental rights battle with Disney — social conservatives see this year’s Pride Month as an opportunity to make corporations pay for LGBTQ-friendly marketing, especially for products enjoyed by children. (snip)
Why the backlash now? Jon Schweppe, the policy director of the conservative American Principles Project, said that the debate had changed as the LGBTQ rights movement focused more on transgender rights and visibility. There were corporations who “wanted to show support for Pride,” he said, “but not wade into the trans kids debate.”
DeSantis got credit, too, as did the burgeoning conservative media, and the new owner of Twitter — a multi-billionaire who’s rolled back restrictions on speech that mocks “transgender individuals.” Accounts like End Wokeness, with 1.1 million followers, are now making pro-LGBTQ products infamous (in between Musk-approved tweets about “interracial violent crime”) in ways that the prior ownership might have sought to prevent.
According to Weigel, this is just Republicans and conservatives taking advantage of *trans visibility” to oppose the “hard won” rights due to, David genuflects, Stonewall.
I agree that this is now a War. But it is a “war” brought on by pushing reasonable and rational citizens up against a line they cannot tolerate: The erasure of women and the sexualization of children.
How many receipts must be trotted out for Weigel to take notice? Last year’s “family friendly” LAPride in the Park event that included a lewd performance by Christina Aguilera sporting a giant green, strap-on dildo. Not only were there no objections, there were kudos that having ‘kink’, and making sure kids see and participate, during Pride Month was just awesome sauce!
I’m old enough to remember SCOTUS Justice Antonin Scalia’s dissent to the overturning of Texas’ sodomy law in Lawrence v Texas
Scalia wrote that if the court was not prepared to validate laws based on moral choices as it had done in Bowers, state laws against bigamy, same-sex marriage, adult incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and obscenity would not prove sustainable.
Of course, Scalia was both attacked and mocked for such “homophobic” fear-mongering, but here we are. It isn’t enough to be accepting of individuals who happen to be homosexual. We are to bend a knee and bow our heads to the radical Queering of all public spaces, institutions and media. We are to deliver up our children to chemical and physical mutilation, erase all reference to sex — mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister — least some transfacist male in a dress hanging out in the women’s locker room with an hardon is offended. We’ve seen a little boy mutilated and sterilized on camera for ratings, pre-pubescent boys in drag dancing for adults for cash and the promotion to accept minor-attracted people as just another sexual orientation.
The Trans Mafia even goes after gay and lesbian people who are insufficiently queer. And certainly, “gay white man” is out, “365 days of girlhood” is in. And don’t you dare ‘misgender’ him.
Dylan Mulvaney calls for the arrest of people who call him a man. Do you still think I’ve been too mean to this guy?

So yes, David, this is “war”. The Queers brought it, the normies – straight, gay and lesbian – will finish it. #AbolishPrideMonth
Buck up buttercup, this is just the beginning.

“… it is a “war” brought on by pushing reasonable and rational citizens up against a line they cannot tolerate: The erasure of women and the sexualization of children.”
In an article on Sky News Australia today it is reported that “one of the four major medical indemnity providers which insures GPs and private practitioners against legal claims, MDA National, updated its policy this month to exclude cover for claims relating to gender transitioning treatment for anyone under 18 years old.”
Perhaps members of the medical profession will begin to develop a conscience driven by the fear of future legal action by abused children who were not accorded proper medical treatment as minors but mutilated due to the current deviant and sexual fads pushed by their parents and alphabet people in general so as to recruit for their own personal [Munchhausen’s Syndrome by Proxy?] and political purposes.
All right, it’s a war. But remember: Wars are not won on the basis of who has the greater number of “rooters on the sidelines.” If Normals want to prevail in this war, they will have to fight. That means something more than polite — or impolite — expressions of disapproval.
We can win, but only if we fight. And that means risks and sacrifices.
