The school guidance counselor looked over at the youngster across the desk.
“Yes, you’ve passed every diversity class. Your empathy with protected classes is high and you’ve embraced bystander responsibility … Additionally, not only have you passed every math class, you’re also currently taking advanced courses at the local university.
That stops now. A deep-tech review of your background has revealed great-grandparents who promoted belief in individual merit and voting. Your transfer from academic and professional track to domestic skills is effective immediately.”
The counselor heard a sob as the student closed the door and zir eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

Cameron says: TCHR-57 was but one in a series of robots designed to replace the teachers who were too scared to go back to school because of COVID-39. He (Yes, we anthropomorphized the machines. Deal.) was phenomenal. He could teach any subject up to Senior Year High School and could quickly adapt to the few students he had.
Of course, accusations of “privilege” were bleated out because 57 treated all students alike and he demanded the best out of us. And ten years later, people like me took over the jobs because we actually got an education.
57 was cool with it though. He said that becoming obsolete because people learned from him made him happy.

Navig8r says: For unknown reasons, the society in this parallel universe was constrained to an incrementalist path of technological development. For example, instead of leapfrogging to the telegraph, they had automated the Pony Express piece by piece, first with robot horses and then adding robot riders galloping across the plains on the robot horses. Today, there were flesh and blood pupils sitting alongside the robotic pupils, all dutifully taking notes as the robot teacher wrote on the board. The engineers had not yet learned to make robotic children that could grow up to make other robots. But they were working on it.
