Independence Day 2019 was celebrated in the true style of President Donald Trump. It was bold, brash, over-the-top and in your face. In my opinion, this is the way the Fourth of July should be celebrated every year. If you know your history, you know that Founding Father John Adams was of a similar conviction:
John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that July 2 “will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival” and that the celebration should include “Pomp and Parade…Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other.”
I feel pretty sure that if John Adams had been a psychic, he would have added B-2 bombers to his list.
Trump titled his Independence Day show “Salute to America”, and it truly was a salute to America. He had shout outs to those in every sphere of American endeavor. He began with the story of our national birth:
As we gather this evening in the joy of freedom, we remember that all share a truly extraordinary heritage.
Together, we are part of one of the greatest stories ever told, the story of America. It is the epic tale of a great nation, whose people have risked everything for what they know is right and what they know is true.
It is the chronicle of brave citizens who never give up on the dream of a better and brighter future. And it is the saga of 13 separate colonies that united to form the most just and virtuous republic ever conceived.
On this day 243 years ago, our founding fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to declare independence and defend our God-given rights.
Trump discussed Clara Barton and Frederick Douglas, astronauts and the Wright Brothers. Along the way, he introduced contemporary Americans. My favorite parts were the military branch songs with flyovers, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and the always epic Blue Angels. It was not at all about Trump; this Independence Day show was about us. All of us. Who could possibly find fault with this all-American show?
Oh, you know, the predictably pathetic sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Most notably, the failing New York Times. The article the paper posted is titled, “With Flyovers and Flags,Trump Plays M.C. For the Fourth” Like, that’s a bad thing? But, their losing sour grape snipes are not done. The opening paragraph:
In a made-for-television Independence Day production starring America’s military weaponry, President Trump on Thursday used the Lincoln Memorial as the backdrop for a homage to the country’s armed forces and a call for unity that has been largely absent during his divisive presidency.
“(M)ade-for-television”? I should hope so. What? It should be amateur time in D.C. because “Orange Man Bad”? And, a “call for unity that has been largely absent during his divisive presidency”? Only because the Times hears bad intentions in just about every word Trump utters. And, then this:
Flanked by Bradley armored vehicles and M1A2 tanks in front of the statue of Abraham Lincoln, Mr. Trump paid tribute to the five branches of the military as a chorus sang each service hymn and he cued the arrival of fighter jets and other military aircraft roaring by in the skies overhead.
About those other military aircraft, the new Marine One looks awesome, and although I prefer the Chinooks, my daughter-in-love has a real heart for the Apache helicopters that flew by the Washington Memorial.
But, the worst part for the New York Times, was that those awful Trump supporters showed their deplorable faces:
One woman wore a “I’m a Trump Deplorable” T-shirt, followed not far behind by a man in a “Veterans for Trump” shirt. A man wearing a shirt that said “Vote Democrat: Make America a Third World Country” walked through the crowd yelling about the end of the democracy. A lone Trump opponent walked quietly with a sign that said “Dump Trump.”
I personally love this old guy’s attitude:
“I’m not a Republican. I’m an independent,” said Mr. Cortez, the recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal for valor, a Purple Heart and the Navy-Marine Corps Medal. “But when the White House calls, I’m not going to pass up a seat at an event like this. Patriots should go to any White House. I’m honored to go.”
Amen, sir, Amen.

Let’s do this every year. Who’s with me? By the way, I finished the day with the PBS show “A Capitol Fourth” followed by the Boston Pops. I made John Adams proud.

By which they mean that Trump hasn’t rolled over in the face of the left’s withering criticism and scorched-earth tactics. He fights, and they hate him for it.
Wfjag says: Sen Tom Cotton’s book, Sacred Duty evolves from his duty with the Old Guard, between his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to honoring those who served in the funeral, retirement and other ceremonies, its Soldiers demonstrate to foreign officials the discipline and professionalism of the American Army. That’s a comfort to allies and a warning to adversaries. The so-called news media didn’t broadcast the parade, flyovers, crowds and President’s speech because they didn’t want to watch and didn’t understand their importance. But, the rest of the world understands.
GWB says: Your third link (“With Flyovers and Flags,Trump Plays M.C. For the Fourth”) appears broken. When I bring it up in private mode (the only way I would EVER click on a NYT link) I get an “Address not understood” from my browser. (I cleaned off the stuff from the question mark down, and it came up ok. Of course, it also wouldn’t let me read past the first paragraph because I was in private mode. Heh.)

No. It’s not his presidency that is divisive. It’s the anti-American a**holes (like at the NYT) who have been dividing America since long before Trump was elected (at least since the 80s). It’s just that with the election of 0bama they felt they could make their final push and get their utopia – and Trump derailed that.
he cued the arrival of fighter jets
Hoo boy. I guarantee he had nothing to do with the cuing of the flyovers. There’s a team that does that, comprised of military controllers and a robust communications setup.
A lone Trump opponent walked quietly
Well, yes, he would seem to be the lone Trump opponent that is quiet about anything. (The NYT totally missed the flag-burning in front of the White House?!?)
I finished the day with the PBS show “A Capitol Fourth” followed by the Boston Pops.
*I* finished the day watching and listening to the multitudinous neighborhood fireworks. They went on in batches and bunches from ~8:45 until ~9:45, from the little park three houses down to the street a block over, to the far side of the sub-division. It was glorious. And inspiring. Made me want to lock and load and go find a tyrant to bedevil.
