It’s not often when I will applaud the left for having some class, but I need to give props to Stephen Colbert today, whose recent tweet earned him the ire of the left and accusations of white supremacy. Yeah, that Stephen Colbert.
What did Stephen Colbert do to rile up such bile from his own political allies? Apparently he had the unmitigated gall to publicly say that attacking Tucker Carlson’s family in their home is an unacceptable form of protest and that the unhinged mob who did so committed an act of monstrous cowardice.
Fighting Tucker Carlson’s ideas is an American right. Targeting his home and terrorizing his family is an act of monstrous cowardice. Obviously don’t do this, but also, take no pleasure in it happening. Feeding monsters just makes more monsters.

That did not sit well with the deranged supporters of said unhinged mob, who also didn’t like being called out on their monstrous glee in support of the horde of proglodyte psychotics. Some of the responses were both frightening and telling.
Frightening, because there seem to be so many violent, demented fuckwits willing to literally assault their political adversaries and their families, and telling because the cowards who support them with tweets and applause most
likely would shit their frilly panties at confronting said political adversaries face-to-face. These keyboard warriors are all too happy to hurl all kinds of invective at those who don’t toe their political line, and they encourage and applaud violence and terror perpetrated by others, ostensibly because they’re too chickenshit to commit it themselves.
Stephen Colbert is correct.
There is no excuse for this type of behavior. There is no excuse for threatening people and their families for uttering words with which you do not agree, holding views that you dislike, or working for a television network you hate. There is no excuse for invading their property in a knuckle dragging mob. And there’s no excuse for applauding this behavior!
But to see the responses of these hysterical swarm of shitguzzlers, one would think that Colbert just threw a few Jews in the oven!
They range from snotty lies…
Mr. Colbert,
The problem with this tweet is this is not what happened. No one was terrorized. The protestors were not monsters.
As a journalist w/ tremendous influence, you have a duty to check your sources before you draw conclusions.
Please correct this tweet.
Thank you.

…to concern troll whataboutism…
I wish Tucker felt as much remorse for all the black people harassed each and every day at their homes, in parks, stores, walking, driving, even shot, killed. It’s not right but where’s his feelings for others. His vitriol incites those harassers.

…to outright froth-flecked lunacy and conspiritardery that would make Alex Jones drop a load of dick chowder in his pants.
But, were they real ‘lefties’ or just paid actors posing? 🤔

@StephenAtHome Hey, Stephen, would you like to take another pass at this given that Carlson has been (unsurprisingly) proven to be lying about what happened? And maybe consider not reflexively jumping to the defense of white supremacists?

Here’s the thing, Colbert is 100 percent correct.
When you cheer on violence and criminal acts…
When you engage in whataboutism in defense of the indefensible…
When you encourage monsters…
…you not only create monsters, you become one.
And this is where I will lean on our conservative brethren, so be warned – some of you will not like what I have to say.
Michelle Obama apparently reveals in her upcoming memoir that both her daughters were conceived through IVF because she and Barack Obama had trouble conceiving and she’d had a miscarriage.
This revelation unleashed an appalling horde of conservative ridicule, resurrecting the conspiracy theory that somehow Michelle Obama was a man and that her husband is gay. This garbage behavior ranged from accusations that the revelation was a lie meant to elicit sympathy (or something) to claims and abhorrent jokes about the parentage of Malia and Sasha Obama.
Don’t believe me? Just click on the comment section of any conservative-leaning publication, such as this one that I screencapped from the Washington Times.
The woman revealed something incredibly painful and traumatic from her life.
I know. I’ve been there and done that more times than I can mention before I finally gave up on having another baby and chose to adopt.
And some are so lacking in compassion and human decency, that they would not only make tranny jokes, but also indirectly attack and denigrate the children of the former First Family – all because they can’t stand Obama.
Yes, I do understand that having experienced the pain of a miscarriage is and should be incongruous with Obama’s support for abortion.
But you know what is also incongruous and downright tonedeaf? It’s those of you who purport to treasure life and value babies, while ridiculing and demeaning a woman who has lost a child.
You want to wave your political dick in the air? Don’t aim it at families and children!
I have no love for Obama’s policies, his arrogance, or his political views. I have no use for Michelle’s smug haughtiness and her racist views. But I draw the line at ridiculing their soul-tearing tragedy, and I would encourage the rest of you to do the same.
Do not engage in whataboutism.
Do not attempt to excuse this behavior by claiming “they lied about everything else…”
Do not make jokes at their grief.
Do not use the First Amendment as a shield for the beer and corn shit that you expel from your maw and your keyboard.
Do not claim you’re entitled because they’re mean to you, conservatives, Trump, or his family. We are and should be better than them.
No matter what you think about them personally and about their politics, they are human beings who lost a child, and you are less than a person and certainly less than a conservative if you exploit that just so you can waggle your political dongle in their face.
There is no excuse for it. Period.
Stephen Colbert is wrong about a lot of things, and I can even agree that he is responsible for at least some of the unhinged liberal douchebaggery every time he picks up the mike and twists the truth about conservatives.
He is nauseatingly smarmy has made a career of attacking conservatives, but he is 100 percent right here.
Don’t be a dick and then complain how a second civil war is coming, because you will be partially responsible when it gets here.
Good post Marta, and you’re right, while we may have to take a page from the lefts playbook if we want to keep our country, the one about attacking families is not the one. The best way to respond to Michelle Obama and her book is to ignore her. While she is the one that felt the need to make her story public by writing about it, we cannot know her motives for doing so, and should not speculate about them. If we do so, we only sink to their level.
Marta well said. With politics set to get worse the rest of us need to maintain a certain standard of civil discourse. Cheers
While I agree that this is not the sort of thing we should do, it is an inevitable outcome of things such as not being proud of your country (until your husband is elected) and hiding everything about your past while outing other peoples’ private pain.
And, while I won’t go to that level (noted in your post), nor desire that others would, I don’t really have much sympathy for a woman (that I don’t know personally) who advocates for the sorts of things Michelle 0bama advocates (like abortion).
