Is Obama About to Take Major Gun Control Action?

Poor Josh Earnest. Obama’s press secretary just can’t figure out why Americans are buying guns in record numbers.

Perhaps Americans are determined to protect themselves after the terror attacks in San Bernardino when fourteen people were slaughtered at a holiday party. After all, it is the American citizens’ right to arm themselves as outlined in the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

Perhaps they’re also angry at yet another brand new celebrity-laced PSA chirping that “we can end gun violence” — by the common folk giving up their guns, of course.

Or could it be that alert and savvy citizens are concerned that President Obama just might issue another one of his executive orders — this one aimed at tighter background checks and closing the so-called “gun show loophole”?

And of course this executive order would bypass Congress.

So said Obama’s Svengali, Valerie Jarrett, as she addressed a group on Wednesday attending a vigil for victims of the 2012 Newtown shooting. She added that Obama has a team working to tighten gun laws without a vote in Congress.

However, as Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio pointed out in an interview last week on CBS’s “This Morning,” none of the major shootings that have recently occurred would’ve been stopped by new gun laws.

“None of the major shootings that have occurred in this country over the last few months or years that have outraged us, would gun laws have prevented them,” said Rubio.

Glenn Kessler, writing for “Fact Checker” at the Washington Post agreed, giving Rubio a “rare Geppetto checkmark” for his accuracy.

Stay tuned. Time will tell if Jarrett is off the mark or if Obama is determined to make an unconstitutional attack on Second Amendment rights.
