Former Senator Arlen Specter, Dead at 82

He had a long and complicated political career, holding the title of Pennsylvania’s longest-serving U.S. senator, but Arlen Specter wasn’t one of my favorites. He was instrumental in “borking” the extremely awesome federal appeals court Judge, Robert H. Bork (nominated by Ronaldo Maximus) and he was 1 of only 3 GOP senators who actually voted for Obama’s porkulus spending bill. On the flip side, he did help us get my favorite Supreme, Justice Clarence Thomas, by annihilating that lying liar, Anita Hill.

Right after Barack Obama was anointed in 2009, Specter left the GOP to become a Democrat — he had been one much earlier in his political career. THAT, as you can imagine, was salt in an already big wound called Obama — so he was pretty much dog meat with the GOP and conservatives after that. Thankfully, the terrific Pat Toomey challenged him for his senate seat, ousting him in 2010, and with that, Arlen Specter’s annoying political career was over. That said, he was loved by his family and friends, and I’m sure they are grieving tonight. Senator Specter was at home when he died of complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Godspeed Arlen Specter.
