United States Constitution Banned In New Jersey

People in Edison, New Jersey, are upset that their town council banned the American flag and the U.S. Constitution, labeling them as props.

After hearing that a town council in New Jersey had labeled the American flag and the U.S. Constitution as props and then banned them from meetings, many people showed up to express their indignation. Good for them. They should.

Listen up, the American flag and the U.S. Constitution are not props.

And to remove a citizen from a public meeting for holding up a flag or the U.S. Constitution should outrage each and every American citizen. I don’t care if this was the town council’s rule. Vote those members out.

This might seem tiny, but many of those little things lead to something bigger, something nefarious. We should stop these small things right now. Keep giving an inch, and before you know it, we will ask ourselves, “How did we get here?

It appears the new ordinance 22390 doesn’t specifically ban the American flag or the U.S. Constitution, but that didn’t stop the council president, Nish Patel, from calling to remove people who wished to express their concerns at the meeting.

Edison, NJ – A proposed ordinance in Edison has sparked controversy by aiming to restrict the use of “props” during public comment at Township Council meetings. The ordinance, put forward by Council President Nish Patel, specifically lists “the use of props while addressing the Council” as an activity that could be considered disruptive.

While the ordinance doesn’t explicitly mention the American Flag or the US Constitution, Council President Nish Patel directly answered the question regarding the American Flag and US Constitution by stating “any props will be considered not conducive to good order and as the President I am Making that call.” – Edison Reporter

Oh, this makes me so angry. I once attended one of my town council meetings and spoke for my allotted three minutes to express my concerns over local libraries displaying inappropriate books for young children. I brought books to show, too. Thankfully, I wasn’t shut down or removed from the meeting like the people in Edison, New Jersey.

Good on those citizens for showing up to their town council with civil disobedience. And as far as these cops who escorted Edison’s residences out of the meeting, Shame on them. I wish they had stood with backs against the wall, refusing to remove citizens with “Not today, sir, they’ll have their say.” But we should be thankful that no one had to be cuffed and dragged out.

However, in one video (the X post above), the cop seems to ask, “Do you want us to remove him for holding up the U.S. Constitution?” I guess he wanted that on the record.

Joel Bassoff, the NJ attorney who was tossed out of the meeting for holding up the American flag and then the U.S. Constitution, also had some things to say about the new time limits to speak.

Some residents present at the five-hour meeting were not happy with the rules intended to maintain decorum at the often-raucous meetings.

Resident Joel Bassoff said the council wants to slash the public’s speaking time because the comments often focus on a concern or complaint about wasteful spending, quality-of-life issues or a public safety issue the mayor and his administration have failed to address. – My Central Jersey

I don’t have a problem with time limits. It forces you to get to the freaking point. It helps to get your point across quickly and with more bluntness. Sometimes, that is what is needed to be sharp.

It is understood that decorum should be established, but saying that the American flag and the U.S. Constitution are props? No sir. No ma’am. I hope these citizens show up with the American flag and U.S. Constitution every single time the council meets. Be American!

Well, now, wouldn’t that be cute.  Do it.

Next time bring a copy of the Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, Mao’s Little Red Book, a US flag, and the US Constitution. Display the first three as you speak, then halfway through display the flag and Constitution and see what happens.

    “the council president, Nish Patel”

I’m old enough to remember when immigrants loved this country.
