Trump is campaigning hard for voters it must be said. He is trying to overcome the negative press and mishaps chronicled is the blogosphere. There is one focus group he has issues with and that is women. And he replaced Paul Manafort with Kellyanne Conway as his campaign manager. If he was hoping to get female votes, she may have been a very bad choice.
The media unearthed some disturbing quotes from Ms. Conway and these quotes are sticking to Trump like a fly on flypaper. So why is this a problem? Because he is losing voters who despise Hillary when the media romps all over him. And she is a perfect target doing a lot of damage to his brand.
Here is a personal example. My mom has been a proud democrat for decades. She is pretty far left but Hillary bothers her enough to consider voting GOP. The dealbreakers for mom are the image of Trump in the media and the people he chooses to represent him.
Ms. Conway appalled women. She said this back in 2013 and it is still being used today against her candidate.
“If we were physiologically — not mentally, emotionally, professionally — equal to men, if we were physiologically as strong as men, rape would not exist,” Conway said. “You would be able to defend yourself and fight him off.”
Really? So you are telling me men who were raped are weak? That somehow if I was stronger that I would not be a statistic? Rape is a crime of violence and hate. Victim blaming is the fastest way to piss off victims and their families. It is a dealbreaker in other words.

The quote is three years old yes. But it went viral. And it is dragging the Trump campaign down. She said this not Donald Trump. But she represents him. Think about it.

Trump knows PR and is brilliant at presenting his brand in the world of real estate. Ms. Conway is fortunate enough to not be a statistic. But she is the face of the Trump 2016 campaign. She is getting women’s attention but that is not a good thing.
I do not consider Conway noting that women are not as physically as strong as men to be victim blaming. That (alone) is not victim bashing. So what was the full context of Conway’s comment? Did she actually say the victims had it coming (I am going to guess she did not). And yes physically weaker men are raped by other men. And your point?
That fact that physically weaker persons get preyed upon does not mean the victims deserved to be raped. What it does justify is allowing people to arm and protect themselves (men or women) so they are not victims of crimes.
This looks more like media dog piling “gotcha” on Conway.

Scott says: Hi, I’ve been reading here for quite a while, but have never commented before. I understand that a number of the writers on this site are not Trump fans ( and to be honest, I’m not a Yuuge fan either) but , though i have not read the transcript of Conways entire comment, I’d have to believe that the above commentor is correct, that her statement was just pointing out the obvious, that predators, including rapists prey on those that are physically weaker than them.
Since I have a family member that was raped, so I think i do have some standing to comment on the subject, I think a disservice is done to all rape victims ( and potential ones in the future) by an overreaction to comments made about victims behavior contributing to their being raped. while some get very upset by such comments, it is in no way suggesting that a victim deserves it, or diminishing the blame that should be placed on the rapist, to state something obvious, like ” drinking to the point of unconsciousness increases your risk of being raped” just as it is not blaming the victim to say ” waving a wad of cash in a high crime neighborhood increases your chance of being robbed” .
People need to understand that their behavior does make them more or less likely to be a victim of a crime. Nothing takes the blame off the criminal for the crime that they commit, but only a fool would believe that a criminal does not chose their victim based on behaviors that make them an easier target.
Gail Boer says: Thanks for your thoughts. I have a hard time with the notion of all blameless victims when they did not make wise choices but the rapist is the criminal and should be. Unfortunately rape is rarely prosecuted because of the grey areas you mention.
Optimizer says: (1) If you can believe the polls, Trump has shot up in the polls since Conway took over, so your basic thesis is BS.
(2) You must be really desperate to try to make something out of that quote. It is not sexist or anti-woman in any way, and it certainly does not “blame the victim”. You can find minor faults with this obscure quote if you put it under a microscope, but they amount to nothing at all, and it’s unreasonable (and did I mention, “desperate”) to do so.
(3) Your mom obviously isn’t serious about considering the GOP. Hillary has no history of accomplishment, a history of constant scandals, it’s obvious that she’s committed a variety of serious crimes, has contempt for national security, and shouldn’t be trusted with even the lowest level of classified information. She – along with the entire Democratic Party – openly celebrates law-breakers (illegal aliens and the thugs who inspired BLM) and puts the interests of our enemies before that of the American people. I won’t take the time to talk about Benghazi – there’s just no shortage of material regarding what a traitorous sociopath she is. If your mom can vote for Hillary, you should be ashamed of her, plain and simple. If you can stand by and allow her to beat Trump – the only viable alternative – you should be ashamed of yourself, too.
Gail Boer says: 1. The polls show them neck and neck. which should mean I should see a lot of enthusiastic volunteers or even see a ton of Trump signs all over the place right? I live in a swing state where he should be romping all over the place. So far there was a Yuuuuggee flash mob found only on Facebook?
2. If we were as strong as men rape would not exist? If women were stronger they could fight the attacker off? What about men who are raped? And the issue is that the media has painted a picture of Trump and her remarks are helping that picture come together.
3. We know what a slimy evil murderer Hillary is. What does Trump offer that makes him a viable attractive candidate? This is what Ms. Conway SHOULD be focusing on but is not. And Selling points are not how much the competition sucks but how good your product is. Which Trump should know.
