As April 15th looms, Caryn Johnson, aka Whoopi Goldberg, Queen Shamu of The View decides to weigh in (heh) on how much more you owe and, Shut up, she explains.
Whoopi receives about $8 million per episode of the reliably cringey The View and has an estimated net worth in the $30-60 million range. Not too shabby for a comedienne. And dollars to donuts, Whoopi hasn’t done her own taxes in decades.
But all you regular guys? Normies who sit down with Turbo Tax or H&R Block each spring to see if you guessed right on your withholding? YOU’RE the problem, friends.

I also believe that it’s very important to remind people that now is the time for each and every one of us to suck it up and make sure that we know what we need to take care of. If you’re in an area where the school district is losing, then you got to pay a little more taxes and you gotta help the schools out. If you’re finding that your libraries are falling apart, you have to give more.
Stop worrying about bread, people, and EAT.MORE.CAKE.
Now, I won’t badger the poor thing about her having accountants and lawyers looking for every legal deduction she qualifies for. The tax code itself runs 6,871 pages long (over 70,000 pages once you add in regulations and guidance), so I’ll cut some slack to the high school dropout that she and her 1040 forms have had no formal introduction. However, her lecturing the guys and gals making about $75K/year to pay more and stop complaining is pretty darned bold. And not in a good way.
You first, Caryn. Nothing stops you from calling up your accountant to cut a check to the IRS out of the goodness of your heart. Right, hon?
Whoopi just follows a long-established pattern of the Ruling Class. Start to threaten their fiefdoms by questioning the spending and they wring their hands and say “but that means we’ll have to cut back on the police department or fire or paramedics!! You’ll make the community less safe and it will all be your fault!”
This is the passive-aggressive exploitation of empathy.
Whoopi deliberately ignores that schools aren’t failing for lack of funds. That myth has been busted over and over again. Johnny can’t read because his school didn’t get that $10 million new administration building downtown. Suzie can’t do math because schools have other priorities than boring old basics.

Puh-leeze. What rational adult wants to pay more taxes for that?
Vouchers, please.

8 MILLION per episode of a daily program? So … 40 mil a week while in production and she has a net worth of 30-60 mill?
Try again.
That gif is small enough, and the white text on the colored background is just off enough… I thought it said “Won’t somebody think of the chicken?” I might have been influenced by the top pic, Darleen.
I still propose that all federal income taxes be paid in a lump sum for the entire year, by cash or check, in person, on the Thursday before the Tuesday corresponding to national elections. (So, you would calculate the correct day in non-national election years as if there were a national election, and proceed from there.) No more secret withholding, no more the idea of “getting money back” from the government.
I figure the effect on elections should be profound.
