Camp David was going to be a happening place this week. Well, it was until the RSVP’s for Obama’s planned 2-day summit with leaders from the 6 countries making up the Gulf Cooperation Council started trickling in. It seems the NO’s are far out-pacing the Yes’s. Hmmm – I wonder why? Perhaps its because, as the LA Times Paul Richter reports, Obama didn’t listen to the admonition they sent over last week:
Between the lines of a bland communique issued last week by six Persian Gulf states was a warning: If Washington won’t help us roll back aggressive moves from Iran and its allies, we will do it ourselves
WOW. It sure seems that there isn’t much confidence in Obama NOR in his and Secretary of State “HUGS” Kerry’s grand Iran Nuclear Treaty deal is there? How’s that bow working out now?
An interesting signal is sent when emirs from Kuwait and Qatar are going to attend and the WSJ’s Jay Solomon, Carol E. Lee, and Ahmed Al Omran find out that:
Saudi Arabia’s monarch pulled out of a summit to be hosted by President Barack Obama on Thursday, in a blow to the White House’s efforts to build Arab support for a nuclear accord with Iran.
King Salman ’s decision appeared to ripple across the Persian Gulf. Bahrain said on Sunday that its ruler, King Hamad bin Isaa Al Khalifa, had opted not to travel to Washington.
OH SNAP! That’s gonna leave a mark. When a major Camp David summit is planned and most of the leaders of the countries invited to the summit decide not to show up; I’d pay VERY close attention to the signals those countries are sending to the United States and the world. And no matter which way you slice it, Obama has been snubbed.
