This year’s Democratic National Convention was little more than a pro-abortion rally. Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan, and pro-abortion darling Sandra Fluke were all given high-profile speaking roles at the convention. Cries of a “war on women” coming from the pro-life team of Romney and Ryan were constant. Upholding Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to an abortion is a key part of their platform.
Meanwhile, Democrats For Life hosted an event – and not one politician currently in office attended.
Obama, for his part, is rapidly losing the Catholic vote – in 2008, 54% of Catholics voted for him, but today, only 27% profess their support. This is undoubtedly due to Obama’s extremism towards abortion, his trampling of religious liberties, and the Democrat Party’s complete abandonment of pro-life voters. This is a pro-abortion party – no doubt about it.
It’s curious, though, this abandoning of pro-lifers. It’s clearly not a good strategy. Currently, a majority of Americans see themselves as pro-life. A recent poll found that over 60% of Americans favor restricting abortion, and only 35% want unlimited abortion on demand – what Democrats have been advocating for.
The Democratic Party’s platform says:
The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.
They’ve laid it all out, in plain old black and white, that they are firmly on the side of the pro-abortion crowd. But in a pro-life America, maybe that isn’t where they should be.
