You may remember that last month, at one of the seemingly-endless Republican debates, Donald Trump went full Code Pink and accused President George W. Bush of lying to the American people in order to overthrow Saddam Hussein in Iraq.
“I will tell you. They lied. And they said there were weapons of mass destruction and there were none. And they knew there were none. There were no weapons of mass destruction,” Trump proclaimed from the debate podium.
Trump later backtracked — sort of — as is typical of Trump when his often-aberrant statements trip him up. A week later, on NBC’s Today, the bloviating billionaire said, “I don’t know if he lied or not. He could have lied. Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. I guess you’d have to ask him.”
On Monday, conservative pundit Dennis Prager, through his YouTube channel Prager University (which is free, not being sued for fraud, and actually provides very cogent information), provided the answer: No, George Bush did not lie about weapons of mass destruction.
Prager employed City Journal editor Judith Miller, who wrote extensively about the subject for the New York Times, and received a Pulitzer for her investigation, to explain why the conspiracy theory of “Bush lied” that Trump promoted is spurious. Her video explains conclusively why that theory is implausible and absurd, and is well worth the viewing.
As Miller said in the video, “The false narrative that he did (lie), is itself a lie, and deserves to be at last retired.”
So why, Trump supporters, do you continue to support this unfiltered candidate who loves to dabble in bizarre and preposterous conspiracy theories?
