Mimosa, Bloody Mary, nice flute of champagne — or maybe a favorite tipple in your coffee. Make yourself one and join me at our own Algonquin Round Table, the spirit of Dorothy Parker abides.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! And a most Happy Father’s Day! Disregard the POV of the portside who contends that fathers are not just optional, but disposable. As you rise to the occasion, please know how important you are. We honor you, we cherish you, we love you. I lift my glass in your direction. Bravo, sirs! In your honor you’ll find the bruncheon table practically groaning under platters of bacon, BBQ’d ribs, spicy chicken wings and all sorts of carb-loaded sides. Plates to you first, dears. Now let’s get to it.

It’s a mystery!

Who woulda thunk it?

California’s $20 minimum wage law for fast food workers has triggered major job losses, business closures, and increased automation. New federal data confirms what many warned would happen: tens of thousands of entry-level jobs have vanished, and the damage continues to spread.

Key Facts:
-36,565 fast food jobs have been lost in California since AB 1228 was signed into law in September 2023.
-The $20 per hour minimum wage went into effect on April 1, 2024.
-Between September 2023 and April 2024, over 10,000 jobs were cut ahead of implementation.
-Restaurants have rapidly moved to automation, digital kiosks, and reduced hours to offset labor costs.
-Fast food prices in California have jumped 14.5%, far above the national average of 8.2%.

Heck of a job, Gavin!

That thing that doesn’t exist

All that screeching from the Left about DOGE and Trump ripping the food out of the mouths of babes when daring to cut one cent from USAID …

Laken Riley could not be reached for comment

Within the fever swamps of MSNBC they continue to shill for illegal immigrants as the angelic hordes made up of starving mothers and children.

On Tuesday morning, MSNBC anchor Ana Cabrera and contributor Paola Ramos covered the Los Angeles anti-ICE riots by insisting the riots are justifiable because of “American empathy.” The toxic word choice from Cabrera and Ramos only covers up the left-wing agenda of not arresting illegals who do not belong in the United States rather than supporting US citizens.

When Cabrera asked Ramos to describe the intentions behind the riots, she portrayed the White House as the instigator, claiming it “has been clear that they want this big display in LA” and “wants this fight.” (snip)

Ramos followed by going on rant accusing President Trump of “dehumanizing” people

Liberals like Cabrera need to be mugged. Good and hard.

First they came for Monticello …

It was but three short years ago that the Left’s Ministry of Truth got its fangs latched onto the throat of Monticello, sucking the life out of Thomas Jefferson’s legacy.

Now they’re poised to doing the same with the Jefferson Memorial.

In direct defiance of President Trump’s recent executive order saying that the Smithsonian, the National Park Service, and others should avoid “divisive narratives that distort” and “rewrite” America’s history and “inappropriately disparage” our heroes, the NPS is nearing completion of a project that would transform the basement museum at the Jefferson Memorial in exactly that manner. It would turn what was an exemplary presentation of Jefferson’s thoughts and actions into a condemning portrayal that would surely leave many visitors wondering why there’s a Jefferson Memorial at all. (snip)

A reported $10 million in funding for this effort was subsequently given by billionaire David Rubenstein, who has financed lots of bad changes elsewhere, including at Jefferson’s Monticello and James Madison’s Montpelier. (Rubenstein also co-led the search that resulted in the hiring of leftist activist Lonnie Bunch as secretary of the Smithsonian.) Rubenstein brazenly says that the transformation he is funding will make it so that “when people go [to the Jefferson Memorial], they can actually learn about Jefferson.” Never mind that the previous version of the museum was entirely focused on learning about Jefferson—as a founder, statesman, inventor, architect, and educator—whereas this one, if opened, clearly won’t be.

What fun! Next year is this nation’s 250th birthday and the Left is working overtime to erase the Founding Fathers (and finally, this nation).

It’s a cute trick when a state can lower its crime rates by just not reporting crime!

Why children should be seen but not heard

Full text of response:

First, picture this: no Google, no Wikipedia, no YouTube tutorials on “How to Build a Nation 101.” Instead, these guys were reading Vergil, Horace, and Thucydides in the original Latin and Greek before breakfast. James Madison, for instance, was fluent in multiple languages and had a library that would make your local Barnes & Noble weep. But sure, let’s compare that to a 12-year-old with a smartphone. Apples and oranges, my friend.

You’re upset because they owned slaves? Valid point, but let’s not rewrite history with a broad brush. Many of them were also abolitionists or at least conflicted about slavery, like Jefferson, who wrote about its evils while grappling with the economic realities of the time. They were products of their era, not ours, and they laid the groundwork for a system that eventually led to its abolition. Progress, not perfection, remember?

And the Constitution? Written by “people who didn’t think women should vote”? True, but also by people who created a document flexible enough to be amended 27 times, including the 19th Amendment that gave women the vote. It’s like criticizing a car for not having GPS when it was built before satellites existed. The point is, it’s still running, and we’ve added the GPS.

You mention their “little cartoon Elmer Fudd shotguns” not being “automatic war machines.” Well, bless your heart, but those muskets were state-of-the-art for their time, and they fought a revolution with them. Today’s automatic weapons? Yeah, they’re scary, but they’re also a product of technological advancement, not a flaw in the Founding Fathers’ foresight. They gave us a Second Amendment that’s been debated ever since, but it’s still here, adapting to new realities.

And finally, your dramatic declaration that you’d be “burned at the stake or lobotomized” if born back then? Honey, you’d probably be married off at 16 and expected to churn butter, but let’s not get carried away. The Founding Fathers weren’t perfect, but they weren’t medieval inquisitors either. They were enlightened thinkers who believed in reason, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—concepts that have evolved but originated with them.

So, while you’re out there rejecting the Founding Fathers because they didn’t have Instagram or gender studies degrees, remember this: they built a framework that’s lasted over two centuries, through civil wars, world wars, and yes, even TikTok. Maybe, just maybe, they knew a thing or two about creating a resilient society. Or, you know, you could keep yelling in your car. Your choice.

Masterfully said!

Trump trivia fact: He took flute lessons as a child. He stated he was good at it, but wasn’t interested in pursuing it, to the disappointment of his mom.

Your Sunday smile

A shout-out to the Girl Scouts who still take the part of their oath “to help people at all times” seriously.

Girl Scouts in Massachusetts just sent nearly 14,000 boxes of cookies to members of the US military this month.

The donation was part of their Project Care and Share—and five of the region’s top cookie sellers were on hand to help load the trucks. (snip)

1,771 Girl Scouts in the Central and Western Massachusetts region participated in this year’s donation initiative, collected 13,989 boxes of cookies (1,166 cases) to give away.

Trucks were loaded in Westfield, Massachusetts on June 6 bound for Barnes Air National Guard and the USO, which will distribute the donations to those currently serving in the US military.

Brava, young ladies! I loved my years in Scouting. Hope you have all the fun I did and more.

And here we are again at the end of our time together. Let me wish you, again, a Happy Father’s Day and please enjoy the rest of your Sunday. See you next week! Cheers!
