Just over sixty-nine years ago, more than one-hundred and fifty thousand troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. Most did not survive the day. Yesterday, two hundred veterans of Normandy and other battles of World War II stormed Washington to gain access to a barricaded and closed World War II Memorial. Washington is lucky they survived.
My question is this: WHY was it barricaded? That monument was earned through blood, tears, and sacrifice, some of it ultimate. It is a testament to both the apathy and sheer stupidity of those in Washington that I even have to posit that query. From our Speaker who appears to enjoy swimming in Cheeto dust and ashes while listening to the Crying Game, to Nancy Pelosi’s inability to serve with her finger permanently affixed to the speed dials of her surgeon and sommelier, is it any wonder veterans are forced to take what is rightfully theirs? How is that exemplary of a grateful nation?
And are they really so stupid that they believe some little barricade will keep out men who survived exponentially worse than what they see in their little war video games?? Yeah, no. That’s cute. THEY SAVED THE WORLD!
They ARE the Greatest Generation, and that is in large part due to their tenacity and inability to accept defeat, something which seems to have gone by the wayside. From Operation Overlord to Operation Over-your-crap, they have proven they won’t accept less than what they’ve earned.
So, when do the rest of us get off of our collective asses and take back what WE have earned?
Bravo Zulu, my friend.
They’ve evidently barricaded the bus turnout at Mt Vernon and shut down a historic(al) farm in MacLean, VA – that is totally funded privately (was cut out of the NPS budget entirely in 1980s).
I was seriously considering driving up to MacLean and taking a tour.
If the progressives are hoping to force all of this to some dramtic climax, they are certainly on their way to accomplishing that!
Unacceptable, GWB!
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo! What a dishonor to the Greatest Generation, that they should be turned away from an open air, unlocked, privately funded and maintained Memorial in their Honor. My would be 98-yr. old Dad never lived to see this Memorial completed. As I see it, these Honor Flight memorial visits should be unconditional, just like Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier…no conditions, no how.
(But the President’s order to barricade the People’s Memorial, -having a full knowledge of the Honor Flight Veterans on their way- due to that great big expense of one security guard, could have been countered by any one of the multi-Millionaires in Congress, or maybe one IRS agent sacrificed, if that was the condition for keeping it open).
Thanks for venting with me–
