Signal Leak: Who’s To Blame

Signal Leak: Who’s To Blame

Signal Leak: Who’s To Blame

We know the Trump Administration planned to attack the Houthis and the plan was discussed on Signal. But even as news outlets say who is to blame…will we ever really know?

First off, even though Signal is promoted as “a messaging app with privacy at its core”, with “strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private”, we know that nothing on any chat, at any period of time, on any platform is completely secure and private.

Now, for the “who’s to blame” for including sensationalist, Trump-hating, Atlantic editor, Jeffrey Goldberg into the mix. Goldberg’s number was on National security adviser, Mike Waltz’s phone. Waltz inadvertently added Goldberg to the list of individuals in the chat. Goldberg, decided to go with it and, subsequently write about what he learned of the Trump Administration’s “war plans”:

It was a chilling thing to realize that I’ve inadvertently discovered a massive security breach in the national security system of the United States.”-Jeffrey Goldberg

Our Toni wrote about how Goldberg came to be part of the Signal war chatroom delight. We’re sure Goldberg felt so important. This was indeed his “journalistic” duty to leak the “war plans” via The Atlantic. Good, ol’ reliable Jeffrey. He endorsed Hillary (Russia, Russia, Russia) Clinton.

Mike Waltz admitted that the leak was not the result of a staffer-gone-rogue last night:

Well, look, a staffer wasn’t responsible. Look, I take full responsibility. I built the group. My job is to make sure everything’s coordinated.”-Mike Waltz

Waltz also claimed that he did not know why or how Goldberg’s number ended up on his phone…but it did.

Have you ever had somebody’s contact that shows their name and then you have somebody else’s number there? So, of course I didn’t see this loser in the group. It looked like someone else.”-Mike Waltz

Goldberg says he has more dirt. Goldberg is entertaining releasing more screenshots. But, may refrain out of “concern” for national security. So noble. Imagine, what Jeffrey Goldberg would have done if this were the Biden/Harris or Harris/Walz administration? We already know. A Signal conversation, such as the one we saw snippets of, would not have taken place under Biden or Harris. Remember? They refused to call the Houthis a a foreign terrorist organization?

What if, just, what if, the Signal participants were not planning “all-out war” and what if, they just wanted to play a little game of FAFO with the Houthis? You’ve got to admit, the Houthis are a real pain in the ass. They got what was a long time coming to them a few days back. In my opinion, this is not the “chilling, all out war” as Goldberg dramatizes. This, is just a little reminder to a group of two-bit thugs that America is not going to stay silent or passive. But attention-seeking, Jeffrey Goldberg is going to sensationalize.

How Jeffrey Goldberg ended up in this chat is still questionable, though. Not going to lie.

I take responsibility. I built the group. But that’s the part that we have to figure out. And that’s the part that we– embarrassing, yes. But, Pete and I are veterans. We know these operations. He has been an excellent secretary of defense, and this was an operation that– I mean, it amazes me. I guess the Democrats were fine to leave all the sea lanes shut down. We’re fine to have destroyers fired on dozens of times by this terrorist group, and fine to have Iran keep supplying the missiles. That was ok. The president takes decisive action and now we’re seeing some real success in taking down their air defenses, opening the sea lanes, taking out their leadership.”-Mike Waltz

Me thinks there’s a rat in the kitchen, though.

We may never know WHO messed up. We may never know HOW Jeffrey Goldberg’s contact information ended up in Mike Waltz’s phone. Was this a rookie screw-up? Absolutely. We may never know about the “war plans” of Signalgate. Goldberg is weighing his options here.

Just because they’re irresponsible with material, doesn’t mean that I’m going to be irresponsible.”-Jeffrey Goldberg

Such a responsible act of journalism playing out here. Imagine if Jeffrey and his tribe were as responsible (snicker) in their reporting and suffered such ethical conundrums when the subjects of Hillary Clinton’s server, Hunter’s laptop, a mysterious bag of cocaine in The West Wing and Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline (to name just a few things) came across their laptops. But, boy howdy, we WILL know something now that Trump’s in The House if Jeffrey Goldberg has anything to do with it. This is a desperate ploy to gain back relevance and credibility. Something Goldberg, The Atlantic and various other news outlets and publications lost over the years when they went dark in covering up the sheer incompetency and criminal acts of the prior administration.

We shall see how this plays out. Should talks of chucking bombs be taken off of Signal? Probably, guys. Nonetheless, we are happy that somehow, the Houthis finally got what was coming to them.

Are you for real? How dumb do you think your readers are?! (Don’t answer that.) Mike Waltz has admitted his mistake. And as for who is responsible, hmmmm… let me see here, how about all the leadership in the chat? Not one of them was like “Hey guys, do you think we should be doing this over Signal?” There are literally means by which they could have had this conversation securely using secure devices, etc. One of the group members was in Russia during the chat which makes it likely that now the Russians have all sorts of intel they shouldn’t have. (Not that you lot care…)

Goldberg had released the full transcript since they insisted it wasn’t classified. News flash: it was according to applicable CENTCOM classification guide provisions. It’s also clear from the latest Atlantic article that they had done this before and were likely trying to avoid the Presidential Records Act by not holding on to their communications. They also likely violated the Espionage Act.

You ladies went ballistic with Hillary’s emails. This is 100x more serious. Why can’t you just admit that these people are a bunch of idiots who should all be fired forthwith? They outed a CIA agent whose identity has never been revealed in a not truly secure chat where a reporter was added! They were talking about literal was plans which puts our servicemen at risk. When the family member of a serviceman/woman is on active duty their loved ones aren’t allowed to reveal anything. I know this because a friend’s husband was in the Navy until last year. And yet these yahoos are just blurting it out where any foreign intelligence group could hack into it!

If you weren’t aware that you’ve drunk the Koolaid, here’s a newsflash: the fact that you’re minimizing this when if it had been any Democrat president’s cabinet members doing this you’d be foaming at the mouth to punish them says it all. You’ve drunk the Koolaid. Wake up!
