this is why i choose to use the republican party only as a vehicle for voting conservatives into office.
republican in name only
yep, i’m talking about you olympia.
Pity poor, Olympia. She has to vote with the Dems if she wants to be re-elected in Maine. But every Republican outside of her state is going to burn her in effigy.
Rock and a hard place.
I really hope the Senate Repubs strip her of her seniority on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. If they do so, she’ll leave the party and Susan Collins will probably go with her. That’ll leave Mitch McConnell with 38 votes, which in the Senate translates to: Loser!
Does anyone else think Olympia Snowe looks like Olive Oil? Just curious. Damn Rino’s.
It’s because of Senators Snowe, Collins, and other RINO’s that I don’t contribute to the RNC. Instead, I make contributions directly to conservative candidates. I wish this woman would pull a Spechter.
Oh come on Kate! How can you argue with such stellar reasoning that Snowe put forth for voting for Baucus?
“Is this bill all that I want? Far from it. Is it all that it can be? Far from it. But when history calls, history calls.”
I mean with logic like that how can you argue with her? Strong sense of “intellect” you Republicans have albeit a lack a spine.
Kate whatever faults the Democrats have, at least they get up there and swing until they get a hit; then they fight like hell to get around the bases and on to home. Yes they are wrong, mostly cheats, they lie and spin and slander anyone who gets in their way from morning to night. But they will get up there and hit as if their plan for the country has been revealed from God himself. And they do it without one iota of an apology.
And what do Republicans do? They just sit there and take it, waiting for everything to go to hell so they “can pick up the pieces”. You’re right. The Republicans are completely laughable. Snowe knows who butters her bread and its not conservatives. There are none anymore in Maine.
free health care and chocolate for all!!!!
“at least they get up there and swing until they get a hit; then they fight like hell to get around the bases and on to home.”
Oh gimme a break. They hold the majority everywhere. What “fight”?
Bases are loaded and the pitcher is a RHINO
As we all know, the public option is the holy grail for the democratic left wing and that was dropped out of the Baucus compromise bill. This bill is most definitely going to changed–but not in the senate. Assuming it survives there, it will radically morph in conference committee where the House democrats are far more left wing than in the Senate. Stay on watch.
Even though you rightwingers love cookie cutter conservatives, Olympia Snowe is a thoughtful senator and thankfully not one. She has like a 70% approval rating in Maine. Same with Senator Collins. As Dade said, they will vote with the people that keep them in office.
hey pennie, jared, paul, dade… this is actually just the beginning of the healthcare fight in a lot ways, not the end. at least now we have movement instead of lofty promises and lies from the left intended to shutdown the debate and stiffle opposition.
put pressure on other senate democrats such as ben nelson (neb), lincoln, landrieu and bill nelson (fla). now it’s up to them to decide whether they will help reach 60 votes to break a filibuster, and help slide this crapola through.
this bill is too problematic for the dems to go the ‘reconciliation’ route. imo. it’s just too disappointing to their base.
Dade, it appears to me that Snowe has “already left the party”.
.
BTW, I vote for Conservatives – regardless of party (or lack thereof).
Mark my words, there will be something that they will call a “public option” in the final bill. And Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu, et. al., will vote with their party for cloture. The Democrats cannot afford to come away with nothing. They know it would destroy them.
As for “lies from the left,” Kate, it is apparent that all the sturm und drang of the teabaggers, with their talk of “death panels” and “pulling the plug on grandma” and nascent socio-fascism (whatever the hell that means), is adding up to a whole lot of nothing.
As hard as it is for tea-baggers to believe, the results of the election last November were legitimate and accurately reflected the hopes of the electorate.
Quoth David:
Dade, it appears to me that Snowe has “already left the party”.
.
BTW, I vote for Conservatives – regardless of party (or lack thereof).
See, that’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans. The GOP, in its current form, is not robust enough to allow dissent in the ranks. The Democrats are a cobbled-together coalition of interest groups.
It wasn’t always so for the Republicans. Here in Oregon, our most revered governor was a Republican named Tom McCall. He pushed for and got public ownership of all the state’s beaches; he implemented the LCDC, a land-use commission that conservatives today absolutely hate.
Olympia Snowe has left the GOP, then?
Fine with me. You’re driving away anyone that doesn’t fall in line. But in the end, you only marginalize yourselves.
“She has like a 70% approval rating in Maine.”
Not for long.
“See, that’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans. The GOP, in its current form, is not robust enough to allow dissent in the ranks. The Democrats are a cobbled-together coalition of interest groups.”
Really? Joe Lieberman might disagree with you.
You’re right. There does seem to be a difference between the two parties. The Democrats, as you said, like to huddle together like moon-eyed kookaid drinkers, following whatever charlatan manages to claw their way to the front, and don’t say a word against them NO MATTER what. …nice philosophy, don’t you think, Dade?
Though the party is far from perfect, at least the members of the Republican party are encouraged to EXPRESS their opinions and call a spade a spade when they see one. They aren’t blind, kooaid drinking lead-by-the-nose followers.
Again, I have no love for the RNC… but even LESS for the DEMS & the policies that they espouse.
BTW, fine with me too if Snowe “leaves” the party. It won’t be because she doesn’t “fall in line”, it will be for whatever reason she decides to cite. Most likely, though, I believe, it would be because she finds that she holds dear and espouses… the…. ideals and ideas of the DEMOCRATIC party. The OTHER party. ERGO…. there she goes. (Kind of like rocket science, eh? Very complicated. NOT.)
Toodles.
“with their talk of “death panels” and “pulling the plug on grandma”
Regardless of what they come up with I’m willing to bet that seniors will be the ones getting the short end of the stick and have a much higer mortality rate under any plan they come with. It seems the best way for them to afford it is to take from medicare.
They may not be “pulling the plug” on any individual but instead a whole generation

Ken says:
“See, that’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans. The GOP, in its current form, is not robust enough to allow dissent in the ranks. The Democrats are a cobbled-together coalition of interest groups.”
Really? Joe Lieberman might disagree with you.
But, you see, Ken, that’s precisely my point. Joe Lieberman still caucuses with the Democrats.
Then, David completely lose it:
Though the party is far from perfect, at least the members of the Republican party are encouraged to EXPRESS their opinions and call a spade a spade when they see one. They aren’t blind, kooaid drinking lead-by-the-nose followers.
But just one post previous he said:
Dade, it appears to me that Snowe has “already left the party”.
I gotta hand it to ya, David. Nobody does –let’s call it “irony” –as well as you do.
“it is apparent that all the sturm und drang of the teabaggers, with their talk of “death panels” and “pulling the plug on grandma” and nascent socio-fascism (whatever the hell that means), is adding up to a whole lot of nothing.”
Well, I wouldn’t say that, Dade. An old video has recently surfaced of Bill Clinton’s Labor Secretary. He was talking about a “nationalized” health care plan. Check it out:
http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/archives/1541
The money quote:
“Reich: “We’re going to have to, if you’re very old, we’re not going to give you all that technology and all those drugs for the last couple of years of your life to keep you maybe going for another couple of months. It’s too expensive, so we’re going to let you die.”
Hmmmm, sure sounds like pulling the plug, doesn’t it???
“Joe Lieberman still caucuses with the Democrats.”
Yet, hes not a democrat, why is that? It’s because when Lieberman went to Iraq and didn’t come back screaming “The war is lost!! The war is lost!!” they tried to run him out of the party. The dems endorsed Lieberman’s challenger who got the democratic nod, so he switched to indepnedent and won re election.
He caucuses with the dems becuase they still need his vote.
Kate please DO NOT speak for democrats. You do a terrible job at it.
Ken,
I really don’t want to go back and rehash the entire “death panels” thing. We’re past that now. People believe whatever they believe by now and nothing’s going to change their minds.
When I said that about the tea-bagger’s voice being spent my point was this: they took their best shot at stopping this, and they failed. We’re going to have healthcare reform, and its going to have some kind of public option.
As for these assertions:
Yet, hes not a democrat, why is that? It’s because when Lieberman went to Iraq and didn’t come back screaming “The war is lost!! The war is lost!!” they tried to run him out of the party. The dems endorsed Lieberman’s challenger who got the democratic nod, so he switched to indepnedent and won re election.
It’s true that some Democrats endorsed Lieberman’s opponent, but many did not. In the end, he lost his primary to Ned Lamont, a political neophyte.
I dunno, Ken. You really seem to be throwin’ out some shrill stuff, which is unlike you. Respectfully.
kate,
nice picture of michelle btw
“I really don’t want to go back and rehash the entire “death panels” thing. We’re past that now.”
Interesting. You bring up the “death panels” thing, yet when I provide you of video proof of it suddenly, “We’re past that now.” Yeah, I guess I’d say the same thing if I was just proven wrong.
“I dunno, Ken. You really seem to be throwin’ out some shrill stuff, which is unlike you. Respectfully.”
This from a guy who uses “Teabaggers” to describe people? Funny stuff!
You didn’t really see the point, Dade. Lieberman was the dems VP candidate in 2000 then suddenly, when he didn’t say what he was supposed to on Iraq, the dems tried to get him out of office. It doesn’t matter if it was just “a few” as you say. He had to become an independent because of the democrats, get it?
The point about the “death panels” is that, at this point, people have made up their minds. Either they believe that there will be panels of government bureaucrats that determine the fate of sick people, or they don’t. At this point, no one is going to change his/her mind.
And regarding Lieberman, his problem was that he got fewer votes than his opponent in the primary. That’s the thing about democracy: the guy who gets more votes is usually considered the winner.
The vote was meaningless. The take-over bill has not even been put on paper yet. They were voting on hot air. I personally don’t see the point in voting on nothing but that is what has happened.
After listening to Dems and Repubs alike spew more hot air this morning, obviously this bill is fragmented, disjointed with what appears to be several separate versions that contain you name it amendments which proves to me that these people don’t know what they are doing.
The American people, Insurance Co., Doctors and even the unions are against this legislation. The only people on the planet that want to pass this joke are the Democrats in the White House and Congress. Gee, I wonder why they are so persistent in their endeavor to take control of our medical services?
What is really needed is to run all these so-called representatives out into the street and tell them to go home. Then put a chain and pad lock on the Capitol building. I truely believe the entire planet would better off. Nothing good will come out of this Congress.
Toma
“As for “lies from the left,” Kate…”
dade, i’m actually referring to stuff like this from obama and his surrogates:
“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” ~ barack obama
yet…
87 percent of the revenue in the baucus proposal to finance obamacare would come from individuals with incomes of less than $200,000.
http://www.aei.org/article/101152
thats just one example of so many.
In case you missed it. I just heard a Congressman, I don’t remember his name it is not important, say that one of the versions of public option that he supports is a government back insurance program backed by a one time capitalization by tax payer funds with no further government subsidy. A stand alone program, run by whomever, that would have to compete with existing insurance companies. Would some one smart please explain to me how the creation of another insurance company will improve or even change anything? Which one of us is stupid?
Insurance Companies are voicing their opposition and running ads against the current Baucaus bill. So The Great Chuck Schummer is threatening them with anti-trust action. How typical.
Top Dems from the House and Senate are at this moment conferring, behind closed doors, with the White House trying to decide how to cram this junk down our throat.
Have a good day.
Toma
Dade, to be precise, it was YOU who said the words – leave the party – with respect to Senator Snowe.
I was simply responding to your postulation. AND, you’ll notice that I put those echoed words IN QUOTES. But I guess nuance & subtlety are not your strong points.
