Santos Gets Prison Sentence Commuted By President Trump

Former Representative George Santos is walking free today, after receiving a commutation of his prison sentence from President Donald Trump.

The announcement came on Friday evening, as the president gave Santos his freedom with one hand, while bitchslapping someone else at the same time. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) was on the receiving end of that smackdown, and for those who know the story, it was rather amusing.

The full post reads:

George Santos was somewhat of a “rogue,” but there are many rogues throughout our Country that aren’t forced to serve seven years in prison. I started to think about George when the subject of Democrat Senator Richard “Da Nang Dick” Blumenthal came up again. As everyone remembers, “Da Nang” stated for almost twenty years that he was a proud Vietnam Veteran, having endured the worst of the War, watching the Wounded and Dead as he raced up the hills and down the valleys, blood streaming from his face. He was “a Great Hero,” he would leak to any and all who would listen — And then it happened! He was a COMPLETE AND TOTAL FRAUD. He never went to Vietnam, he never saw Vietnam, he never experienced the Battles there, or anywhere else. His War Hero status, and even minimal service in our Military, was totally and completely MADE UP. This is far worse than what George Santos did, and at least Santos had the Courage, Conviction, and Intelligence to ALWAYS VOTE REPUBLICAN! George has been in solitary confinement for long stretches of time and, by all accounts, has been horribly mistreated. Therefore, I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life!

The reason Blumenthal’s amazing lies have come back to life in the news cycle again is thanks to a confrontation the smarmy senator had with Attorney General Pam Bondi. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, and all that.

Poor old Dick was all butthurt after Bondi metaphorically smacked him in the face, and after Trump made a comment that Blumenthal should be investigated.

Shortly after, Blumenthal responded to Trump’s claims, telling CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on “The Source” that the allegations are “completely deceptive and distorted.”

“This allegation of 15 years ago has been really rejected by the voters of Connecticut three times, overwhelmingly reelecting me,” Blumenthal said.

The senator acknowledged that he misspoke about his service on “a couple of occasions.”

“I served in the reserves and I referred to my service ‘in Vietnam’ on a handful, just a couple of occasions, rather than ‘during Vietnam,’” Blumenthal told Collins.

Blumenthal admitted in a 2010 New York Time story to misrepresenting his military service after saying that it had been “in” Vietnam. Blumenthal served in the Marine Reserves in Washington, and he was not deployed to Vietnam.

The reason Blumenthal keeps getting reelected is because he’s a Democrat in Connecticut, and those voters are apparently okay with stolen valor if it comes with a “D” after its name. Dick got caught red-handed lying, and just because the lie was exposed 15 years ago doesn’t mean there’s a statute of limitations on reminding poor old Dick of his lies. But to have President Trump bring up Blumenthal’s lies in the commutation of George Santos is rather funny.

Santos told many very messy lies, which led to his expulsion from Congress and the conviction that sent him to prison.

The former representative pleaded guilty in 2024 to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Santos was assessed the maximum sentence in April by U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert. Seybert also ordered Santos to pay nearly $374,000 in restitution and forfeit more than $205,000 in fraud proceeds.

Santos “traded in his integrity for designer clothes and a luxury lifestyle,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly said in a statement at the time.

The former representative and his campaign treasurer had doctored donor reports to qualify for national Republican Party funding, including falsely reporting a $500,000 loan from Santos when he had under $8,000 cumulatively in his accounts.

According to the DOJ, Santos made unauthorized charges to fund both campaign and personal expenses from stolen donor credit card information, including those from “victims he knew were elderly persons suffering from cognitive impairment or decline.” He also used a fake political fundraising company to solicit tens of thousands of dollars which he spent on “designer clothing.”

Santos flipped New York’s third congressional district in 2022 for the GOP despite falsifying his biography, including claiming his family had ties to 9/11 and the Holocaust that were debunked at the time.

Santos started his sentence back in July, but things have not gone well, even by prison standards. In September, Santos was forced into solitary confinement after Project Veritas reported that there were threats against his life.

By commuting the sentence, President Trump merely lets Santos off in regards to his punishment. His criminal conviction still stands.

However, the restitution that Santos was supposed to repay has also been excused.

In the grand scheme of things, is the commutation of George Santos a big deal? In light of all of Joe Biden’s pardons and commutations, not at all. Santos will never be elected to anything ever again, and will probably fade away from the media ecosystem once more. This wasn’t the “righting of a wrong” with the power of the president, this was the reduction of a penalty that was probably too severe in one sense (the actual prison sentence) and should have been kept in another (the restitution and forfeit). And no, Dick Blumenthal isn’t going to be investigated at this point. But it’s always amusing to watch Democrats squirm when they are forced to remember that both sides of the aisle have liars who caucus with them.
