Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were murdered yesterday in their Brentwood home. The horror is compounded that their own son, Nick, has been arrested on the murder charges.
Nick Reiner is being held on no bail.
Rob Reiner’s troubled son Nick fatally stabbed the famed director and his wife Michele at their Los Angeles home, authorities said Monday.
Nick Reiner, 32, who spent years in and out of rehab for drug addiction, is in custody and being held without bail, Page Six confirmed. (snip)
The couple’s daughter Romy found Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, with their throats slashed around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and told cops that she believed a family member “should be suspect,” TMZ reported.
The family must be reeling from the horror of losing Rob and Michele in such a brutal manner. And it must be almost unbearable to try and make sense that this wasn’t just done by Nick, but his sister was the one who discovered her parents’ bodies.
And that’s the humanity and the tragedies of the human condition we can all recognize and mourn together regardless of ephemeral passions of politics. Rob and his wife were, above all else, life partners and parents. With four (now adult) children between them, they knew both the trials and triumphs of raising a family. In addition, Reiner was successful in the entertainment industry, responsible for some of the most enduring (and endearing) of movies. This is Spinal Tap, When Harry met Sally, and The Princess Bride. Reiner can be easily celebrated for the artistry and memorability of those films.
Reiner’s politics? He was a hard-left, vocal activist. No equivocating on that score. There was little to no doubt he held some deeply twisted beliefs and was a sufferer of stage-4 TDS, shaking his fist at the clouds on ‘X’.
Personally, this is why I try to separate the man or woman from their works. Anyone enjoying The Princess Bride for the charming, funny, and non-political film that it is must then appreciate that someone who screamed 24/7 against anyone standing just to his right was able to go for the funny instead of using his media clout to produce a partisan lecture.
(looking at you, Andy Serkis)
Yet, regardless of Reiner’s political activism, his murder has people, even those who opposed him, mourning his passing and offering condolences.
Rob and I remained good friends ever since we made GHOSTS OF MISSISSIPPI. The studio didn’t think I was old enough to do the part, but Rob fought for me. Political differences never stood in the way of our love and respect for each other. I am devastated by this terrible event. https://t.co/eL1lurqyzV

Over the years, I have written many articles about Rob Reiner and his politics …
Reading about his death hurts my heart.
At the end of the day we disagreed about so much, maybe everything, but what a huge loss and in such a tragic way.

A point in Reiner’s favor was he did not join the rabid Left mob celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination (which included elected Democrats). And maybe another day, another post, can recall that Reiner certainly wasn’t gracious about the death of Rush Limbaugh.
But that day is not today.
RIP Rob and Michele.

WEll said Darleen,
I disagree with almost everything he stood for, but I loved Princess Bride, and he and his wife certainly didn’t deserve to die like that. May they both RIP
