Penny Indictment: Shooting the Sheepdog

Racist or politically craven, Soros-puppet DA Alvin Bragg took focus off his vendetta against Trump with indicting Daniel Penny for manslaughter. But the indictment is more than just Penny. It’s about shooting the sheepdog.

Indiana’s Attorney General, Curtis Hill writes for Fox News asking if Penny’s indictment will spell the end of the Good Samaritan.

as is often the case, the centrality of race in the discussions of the issues resulting in Neely’s death, may be dramatically overstating its relevance in this instance and thereby forcing our focus away from serious and hard questions that we, as a society, should be confronting.

Namely, we should be discussing what it means in today’s world, to be the “Good Samaritan” and what are the reasonable expectations we can have of someone who decides to help a stranger, especially at the risk of personal harm. (snip)

For his part, MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton has, as typical, already weighed in on the former question, stating that “a Good Samaritan helps those in trouble, they don’t choke them out.” This is a surprisingly simplified and reductive reading of one of Jesus Christ’s parabolic teachings from one holding himself as a reverend.

Let’s leave out the verbal vomitus of criminal-fabulist and fake-reverend Al Sharpton for a moment because the use of the Good Samaritan template doesn’t quite fit Penny’s situation as much as that of the sheepdog.

The Good Samaritan is about helping others, even if The Other is of a different social/cultural status. The sheepdog template is about protecting, sometimes with violence, others who cannot protect themselves, from predators. The wolves, sheep and sheepdog social metaphor is an old one. Bill Whittle wrote a superb essay using it some ten+ years ago where he picked up on an older essay (1996) by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman.

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen: a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath–a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? Then you are a sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero’s path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

We can nit-pick the metaphor all day long, but the framework of the narrative is sound. The percentage of human beings who run towards the fire is very small. Most people have a really hard time grasping evil in the world and when confronted directly by it, avert their eyes.

Ironically, the “bystander effect”, came out of New York City and the 1964 murder of Kitty Genovese. While that case shocked people across the country, we still witness this everyday via videos on Twitter and TikTok of assaults, fights and petty crime where people hide behind their cells while filming it.

Daniel Penny is no vigilante. There is no evidence of him being on the subway car for any other purpose than going from point A to point B. But just like handful of passengers on Flight 93, or passengers who stopped a terrorist attack on a French train, they all were people going about their daily routine when confronted by imminent danger and acted upon it. It is what drives some parents and not others, to confront school boards when their, and others’, children are threatened.

The question now should be why the Alvin Braggs and Merrick Garlands are out to shoot the sheepdog. Why do they want more of this?

Because sheepdogs allow the sheep to go about their daily, peaceful and productive lives. It allows them to feel safe from being the victims of random or targeted violence. It allows them the space, too, to be concerned with more than just their lives.

And the Ruling Left cannot have that. A population in constant, irrational fear is easier to control. Totalitarians find macro-power not enough. They want micropower — the power to direct your life down to what you eat, cook, how you’ll wash your clothes, where you live and even your leisure time is to be regulated. They actually enable the wolves by destroying fences and doing everything to keep people from protecting themselve and others. Even protecting one’s own property is to be curtailed.

Sheepdogs will be forbidden from scaring-off the wolves.

Daniel Penny’s trial is more than just about his actions in service of his fellow subway riders. It’s about our inherent rights as human beings to respond to imminent danger. This isn’t a “rightwing” value, it’s a human one. Remember that when a Leftwinger claims Penny a “murderer”.
