Ladies and Gentlemen of the Republic. Good news. Texas is leading the way once again. Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott signed a bill that mandates all schools in the state have armed security. The law goes into effect September 1, this year. Finally, a little bit of common sense and true safety for our children in government schools. No gun free zones. Praise the Lord.
For the last four or five decades, it seems, everything mandated, codified, certified and prescribed for the children has been decidedly NOT for the children. Like participation trophies, no civics classes and gun free zones. How do these things make any sense at all. From Not the News, here are some more great details:
The new law would give $330 million to build security centers on campuses and will strengthen the state’s school safety center, a local Texas outlet reports.
The law also requires annual audits of school protocol and has all staff undergo mental health training.
Some residents say that this law is a great step in increasing protection for students in schools.“I think if we have the good guys armed, I think it would minimize deaths,” San Antonio resident April Reyna said in an interview with KSAT.
Well, ya think? Since our federal government is run by power mad Democrats and squishy Republicans who want to mollycoddle students to make them dependent infants for life, don’t think this is going to the national position any time soon. As our Nina wrote last year, the White House “Hardening Schools Isn’t The Answer, Banning Guns Is”. Word salads from Kamala Harris and angry rants from Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer will keep your kids safe. They can always call in David Hogg, Harvard graduate, for God’s sake. The child who traveled the country for gun control after Marjory Stoneman Douglas School shooting in 2018 with, yes, armed security guards. Eye rolls all around here.
No gun free zones around schools are a controversy that I don’t get. My son attended a government high school. I swear the only reason we got him through those four years was the Navy Junior ROTC program. The program was led by a retired Navy Lieutenant Commander and a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant. We love the Gunny. Both men were intelligent and gentle, but looked like they could reign down violence if it was called for. Additionally, the School Resource Officer, Officer Chris, was a retired Army Ranger and a member of the County’s SWAT team. It was a huge high school, but little violence because, and this included the female school principal, the adults looked like they wouldn’t stand for it and would take a body out if an act of violence was tried at that school. And, yet there were the utterly useless “Gun-free zone” signs posted at every entrance.
Has one cretin ever turned around and not shot up a school because of those useless signs? Don’t bother answering, we all know. This tweet is hysterical because the lawmaker reveals that despite having “gun-free zone” signs up, a person still carried a gun into the gathering. Shock!

In this clip, Massad Ayoob talks about having no “gun-free zones” and deploying counter measures.
We don’t want out beloved children to be prey. We don’t want them to be predators either. We want them taught along the way to be shepherds and sheep dogs. Remember when there used to be guns in schools:
I've indulged in this long enough with someone who is woefully uninformed on this topic

There were archery clubs in schools too. Although the field hockey sticks seem far more lethal. My Dad told me that they brought their rifles to go hunting after school. No school shootings then. The change. Fatherless homes and tons of kids on SSRI’s. We really need to look at the effects of psycho-tropic drugs on developing brains. Maybe when the psych eval people get tired of prescribing hormone blockers.
We want NO Gun Free zones in more states. We are glad Texas is leading the way.

I believe that was JUNE 13th. (If not, can I borrow your time machine for a little while?)
One more reason to love Texas.. now if they could just do something about Austin, San Antonio, and Hell Paso…

mandates all schools in the state have armed security.
No gun free zones.
NO, these two things are NOT the same thing! It’s actually a reinforcement of the police state. Without repealing the “gun free zones” the average citizen (read “parent” and “teacher”) still can’t carry on school grounds. It’s nothing more than fortifying the authority of the state to be the sole protectors of the children. And we saw how well that worked in Uvalde and Parkland.
Sorry, but not really a win for freedom.
We want NO Gun Free zones in more states. We are glad Texas is leading the way.
But it is NOT repealing “gun free zones”.
