Nashville Vigil For Shooting Victims Attracts Celebrities

On Wednesday evening, the city of Nashville held a vigil for the victims of the Covenant School shooting. Several famous people attended, some to perform, others just to make their presence known.

Like First Lady Jill Biden, for example. She was among the 400 people who gathered in downtown Nashville, held white candles, and mourned. However, Biden didn’t address the mourners — many of whom, one can assume, would’ve liked to have heard from their First Lady. Even though Mayor John Cooper thanked her profusely for attending:

Dr. Biden, thank you for joining us, for dropping everything and coming to Nashville. And I want to thank President Biden for lowering our country’s flags to half staff to honor our victims.

But not a word from “Dr.” Jill. Nada. Nor can I find any report of her meeting personally with any of the mourners, either. Not even with the family of Mike Hill, the custodian who died in the shooting. His seven children attended, but I’ve seen no report of Biden consoling any of them. And you know the press would’ve been all over themselves to flog the story of the compassionate First Lady.

This being Nashville, some well-known country singers appeared and performed, like Sheryl Crow, who sang “I Shall Believe.” Plus, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show performed the classic “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?” while Margo Price sang “Tears of Rage.”

Speaking of rage, all three of these country singers expressed their own wrath earlier this week over … what else? guns.

Rich Singers Angry About Nashville Shooting

To be honest, other than Sheryl Crow, I have no idea who these other two people are because I don’t like country music. But it seems that they don’t fit conservatives’ fond characterization of country performers being more right-of-center. Sorry, Sean Hannity.

Sheryl Crow, who, like Price and Secor is a resident of Nashville, tweeted shortly after news of the shooting broke:

No words… The Covenant School. Our children deserve better. Praying for all affected. Tragic America.

That was mild. However, the same cannot be said for Margo Price or Ketch Secor.

Price erroneously conflated permit-less carry in Tennessee with bringing a gun into a school, tweeting that TN Gov. Bill Lee has “blood on his hands” for passing the carry bill in 2021.

Can I ask you, @GovBillLee why you passed permit less carry in 2021? Our children are dying and being shot in school but you’re more worried about drag queens than smart gun laws? You have blood on your hands

However, Ketch Secor went ballistic in an Instagram video which you can watch here. At first Secor quietly teared up, but then began dropping F-bombs like Roy Kent in Ted Lasso.

If you’re a teacher we stand with you. We’re not going to be pushed around by people who think the right to have an assault rifle is okay. F*** your assault rifle.

And that was just for starters.

Secor also said that no one needs a “storm the beaches at D-Day assault weapon.” Okay then. Never mind that the American forces on Normandy used the M-1 Garand, a semi-automatic rifle that provided only eight shots. He couldn’t let history get in the way of his tirade.

Nashville Rage Extends to Congress

On late Wednesday afternoon, two Congressmen got into a heated exchange about guns, but this didn’t happen on the House floor. Instead, the near-fisticuffs happened in the hallway.

Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) got into each others’ faces outside the House chambers, with Bowman showboating for the camera.

Bowman had spotted reporters in the hall, and instructed them to push Republicans for more gun control:

They’re cowards! They’re all cowards! They won’t do anything to save the lives of our children at all. Cowards! Question them. Force them to respond to the question, ‘Why the hell don’t you do anything to save America’s children?’ And let them explain that all the way up until 2024.

Massie, co-chair of the Second Amendment Caucus, then asked Bowman what he was talking about, and countered with:

You know, there’s never been a school shooting in a school that allows teachers to carry …

Yeah, nice try, but it fell flat. Bowman continued roaring:

Carry guns? More guns lead to more dead!

Bowman, a former school principal, repeatedly badgered Massie if he had ever worked in a school. “You’re just screaming at me,” responded Massie. Massie also tried to tell the reporters about a gun bill he was sponsoring, but he couldn’t match Bowman’s histrionics.

What the Gun Grabbers Don’t Want You to Know

Shortly before the Nashville vigil started, News Nation anchor Leland Vittert spoke truths that anti-gun liberals don’t want people to know: that while school shootings are horrific, more kids die of guns outside the classroom. And most of them become victims of gun violence in … you guessed it … blue cities run by Democrats.

Let’s look at stories of the three children Vittert referenced: Jarvis Watts, T’yonna Major, and Arlene Alvarez.

Jarvis Watts: Jarvis died of gunshot wounds in Chicago on New Year’s Day. The shooting happened at home, and a person there told police that Jarvis was “playing with the gun.” However, one man left the house before police arrived, and the gun suspiciously vanished as well. Police have ruled Jarvis’s death a homicide.

T’yonna Major: T’yonna Major of Orlando was the victim of a rampage shooter who shot and killed two other people earlier in the day. The killer later entered T’yonna’s family home through an unlocked door and shot both T’yonna and her mother. T’yonna died at the hospital; her mother survived.

Arlene Alvarez: Arlene lived in Houston, and on Valentine’s Day, 2022, she went with her family to get pizza at their favorite pizza place. While Arlene was sitting in the back seat of the pickup truck, a man fired into the vehicle, hitting Arlene in the head. The man told police that he mistook Arlene’s father for someone who had robbed him at an ATM.

So where was Jill Biden when these children died of gunshot violence? And where were Sheryl Crow, Margo Price, or Jamaal Bowman? Did Ketch Secor go into a tirade over the deaths of Jarvis, T’yonna, and Arlene —  or did any celebrity, for that matter? Or did the deaths of these black or brown children not fit their preferred narrative?

Jarvis who?

Speaking of historically and hoplophobically illiterate, the Stg 44 was the first real assault rifle (defined as a carbine-length firearm chambered in an intermediate caliber and capable of full-auto fire). “Sturmgewehr” translates literally as “storm rifle”, with “sturm” (storm) meaning to overwhelmingly assault a position…an assault rifle. It was, of course, invented by the Germans and was used AGAINST the Allies during the D-day invasion.

Hey, don’t forget the M1 carbine, which had a detachable magazine (10, 15 and 20 round), of which some versions were capable of full-auto fire. Most were semi-auto. That’s about as close as US forces got to an “assault rifle” in WWII.

The Marxists never let facts get in the way of a narrative.

    • GWB says:

OUR assault rifle was the BAR. Which really doesn’t match some almost any of those definitional bits, but it’s what we had.

    • Liz says:

We might have to move out of Colorado if they push through some anti-firearm legislation that is on the table now. Which is unfortunate because we just signed the paperwork to start a business.
If it goes through it will be worse than regulations in California. My spouse spoke with the folks at Scheels (where he buys some of his firearms). If the legislation passes they won’t be able to sell firearms (too much liability). Which means they won’t be able to stay in business in Colorado most likely. Fed ex won’t be able to ship firearms in the state either.

      • Scott says:

Agreed Liz, while those bills would result in immediate lawsuits, you are correct, they are more draconian than anywhere else in the US, and wholly unconstitutional… There have been multiple Sheriffs who have stated they will not enforce such drivel, but it remains to be seen..

        • Liz says:

The Sheriffs have been ignoring other firearms restrictions (magazine capacity, for example), but my spouse will not violate the laws, even if they aren’t enforced.

          • Liz says:

Just to add, it’s easier that way. He went to great lengths to cut up the sway brace, and the pistol that came with it. Spoke to two lawyers that specialize in firearms law and still it was confusing. I’ll spare the details but suffice it to say the laws seem to be written in a way where it is nearly impossible to understand the specifics. I’m certain that is intentional.

            • Scott says:

Agree 100% that the laws are designed that way. Also agree that the time to leave Colorado is rapidly approaching. Californians have destroyed this once great state, and turned it into a fascist hellhole. They are making it clear that they don’t want freedom loving individuals here anymore.
I certainly understand your husbands position, though in my opinion, giving in to the left, and allowing them to illegally take your property is not something that should be allowed, but rather fought against. For me at least, it’s a choice between easy and right… and at this point, there’s no choice..

  • GWB says:

He couldn’t let history thought get in the way of his tirade.
    FIFY.

And that’s one of the problems with all of these people. They really don’t think. They’re often not very bright. They simply listen to what people held up as “experts” say, and if it accords with their feelings, then it must be right. It really makes them closer to animals than to men.

But, they think they actually must be smart and wise because they’ve made lots of money.

  • American Human says:

As I said in a post elsewhere, this man, Bowman, has a concrete wall erected around his brain. Nothing gets in…nothing.

  • Cameron says:

Why the hell don’t you do anything to save America’s children?’

Why didn’t you? You and your kind had the majority in the House and the Presidency.

  • Scott says:

“To be honest, other than Sheryl Crow, I have no idea who these other two people are because I don’t like country music.”… Your loss Kim, Country is great music, but Sheryl and these other fools are NOT country artists… they may claim the title when convenient to sell records, but they are just pop stars in costume..

Try out John Rich. Both his music, and his commentary on social issues… THAT is country

    • Kim Hirsch says:

Scott — I did see John Rich perform in 2010 at a Kansas City Tea Party event. He was with Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Karl Rove, maybe others that I can’t recall. Hannity and Rove were hawking books. It was at the newly-opened Sprint Center, and the acoustics were terrific.

John Rich was entertaining to be sure, but the rest of country? Meh. Sorry, not ma thing.

      • Scott says:

It’s all good… to each their own, and it’s only one of the genre’s I listen to, so this is one area that I can definitely respect diversity!

        • GWB says:

I like everything from Mozart to ancient church music to klezmer to country to blues to zydeco to jazz to rock to pop (some) to Mongolian heavy metal throat singing to bagpipes to Celtic crooning. I’m sure I left out about a dozen subdivisions. 🙂

      • GWB says:

Depends on whether we’re talking new country, which is just pop with a twang (parties and drinking and stuff), OR old-fashioned country which is often a style of blues, really. A lot of the old-fashioned country melds bluegrass and blues with folk music (not the hippie stuff, but “western”). I mostly don’t listen to anything past the 90s in any genre, but country was hardest hit by the “democratization” of music, IMO.

  • KyPerson says:

Ketch Secour is in The Old Crow Medicine Show and I love them. But Ketch is a super liberal in the Woody Guthrie mode who never saw a progressive idea he couldn’t get behind. I love his music, but his politics are not in line with mine.
