That would be fantastic! I’m dying to know who his pick will be. This can breathe so much life and energy into his campaign… or completely kill it.
On a tip from Double Plus Undead, Bob Novak says:
Sources close to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign are suggesting he will reveal the name of his vice presidential selection this week while Sen. Barack Obama is getting the headlines on his foreign trip. The name of McCain’s running mate has not been disclosed, but Mitt Romney has led the speculation recently.
The people I’d love to see are: SARAH PALIN, Bobby Jindal, Sen. Jim DeMint, Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson, and I’d be able to live with Mitt Romney. If he picks Joe Liebermann, which I don’t think he will but is still a possibility, well… I don’t know what I’ll do. I guess it’ll tell us where he holds the conservative base. I’d be beyond disappointed if he decided to go all maverick on us with this. He needs to pick someone who will complement him, meaning a conservative.
I just wish Senator McCain would name Gov Sarah Palin Veep already so the fun could begin (that is, fun watching the Dems and MSM squirm).
I think we can give up on Fred. Wish that were not the case, but at this point I think he’s gotten his reminder about how the system works and he’s decided the whole thing just isn’t for him. Can’t say I blame him.
I like Sarah. She’s my pick. Not so much because of her star power; but if the Obamessiah chooses a chick, he’ll do it in the same condescending way he does everything else. He’ll get some “token” chick. The contrast will stand out like night and day.
The big question is how flexible is McCain at putting up with a “maverick” within his own orthodoxy? It’s a very rarely-mentioned truth about rebels — they don’t champion rebelling in general. Each rebel wants to be the final, ultimate rebel, and then when someone rebels against him he gets as authoritarian as anybody else.
That simple truism, to me, seems to be McCain’s biography. Oh well. Time will tell.
Here’s the theme song when Sarah Palin makes her Veep center stage appearance at the Republican National Convention later this summer:

Oh, and yes it IS gonna be Palin. McCain’s already got this new ad up which essentially announces Palin as his pick (without ever having to mention her name).
It’s even got the McCain/Palin campaign slogan vs. Obama: “Don’t hope for new energy, vote for it.” –-

Frankly, Palin and Jindal need to avoid McCain like he has the plauge.
Because in 4 years, Palin will have had time in the Gov chair, and the same with Jindal. Palin as Pres, Jindal as VP, and in 8 years Jindal is a natural for the Oval office…
Not forggeting the fact that Palin and Jindal are ACTUAL conservatives, and thus would be poor matches to McCain…
