At least two things were made clear why the Department of Education must go during the Confirmation Hearing of Linda McMahon to be the Secretary of the Department of Education. The Senators elected by the people don’t give a tinker’s dam what the people think (see our Lisa’s morning post) and those Senators brains have petrified and are not capable of independent or creative thought. It was sad.
During Trump 1.0, Mrs. McMahon was the head of the Small Business Administration. This time, for Trump 2.0, she will head the Department of Education with an eye towards dismantling it. That will mean folding parts of it into other cabinets and/or returning the power and money to the states. The Department of Education was not birthed, fully-formed, from the head of George Washington. Though the Jimmy Carter 1979 version wasn’t the first, it has lasted 46 whole years too long. We are 40th out of 40 developed nations in terms of test scores and we spend a ton on this per pupil.

Linda McMahon stressed that scuttling the Department of Education did not mean scuttling public funding of education. From Politico:
Education secretary nominee Linda McMahon told a congressional panel on Thursday that Donald Trump does not want to defund the agency he’s repeatedly said he wants to dismantle. She underscored that Congress would not be left out of the process of deciding on the agency’s future.
“President Trump understands that we will be working with Congress,” McMahon said in her confirmation hearing before the Senate HELP Committee. “We’d like to do this right. We’d like to make sure that we are presenting a plan that I think our senators could get on board with, and our Congress to get on board with.”
“It’s not the president’s goal to defund the programs, only to have it operate more efficiently,” she added, in response to Senate HELP Chair Bill Cassidy’s question about downsizing the agency.
Meanwhile, the government institutions have gotten fat and sclerotic from the lack of creative thinking. Like New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan thinking that the Department of Education caused Special Needs Students to get a proper education. First, they still don’t always. Second, when they do it’s because of parent advocates who don’t take no for an answer.
First, Hassan insults Linda McMahon with her question about disobeying an illegal order from Trump. Shut up, Maggie, you lost. Second, until it’s adjudicated it’s not Unconstitutional. We understand that Senator Hassan has a special needs son herself, but the Department of Educaton in no way enhances his education.
Senators Andy Kim and Elizabeth Warren don’t think that Mrs. McMahon has enough of an education background. Um, ok.
Linda McMahon's "minimal track record":
– advanced universal school choice in 12 states
– served on CT State Board of Education
– served as a university trustee for over a decade
– holds a teaching credentialShe's extremely qualified, and the Democrats are extremely lying. https://t.co/NTRkl5MprN

Then, there were the protestors:
Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) calls out the protestors at the Linda McMahon confirmation hearing.
Some of these outbursts came from those who claim to be teachers!
“Can you imagine these people teaching our kids in classrooms across America!”

The protestor teachers are why our kids aren’t learning.
I think I just figured out why people become Senators. They don’t have the creativity or agility of the mind to do a real job.

“the Department of Education caused Special Needs Students to get a proper education.”
No education department anywhere can ’cause’ a child of whatever intellectual level to ‘get a proper education’. Obviously the lady has never heard the old saying about taking a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. So it is with children and learning. It’s even harder in this woke age as the required structure in schools which grants children a sense of safety and a framework in which to develop is increasingly lacking due to trendy fads being pushed by inept and immature teachers using children for their own political ends, ignorant politicians and self-centred parents. Teaching has been turned into childminding with a dash of indoctrination.
No, it’s the Special Needs TEACHERS that (should, and many do the best they can) properly educate their students.
My wife works fifty hours a week; rarely is she home at a normal dinner time other than on weekends. At least TWENTY of those hours, though, are spent on the massive burden of mostly worthless PAPERWORK to maintain the jobs of mostly worthless BUREAUCRATS – not education.
She could dream of actually spending forty hours a week with her students, or developing materials for them. But if Trump (and McMahon) can only slash the garbage pile in HALF, she’ll at least have more energy to do her job, and eat dinner at a decent time. (The cook – being me – will also appreciate not being up so late at night. I’m an old man!)
The amount of bureaucratically driven paper work required of teachers who do just want to teach children has exploded in the last decade or so. Most of that paper work is to cover the backside of politicians. The abandonment of basic sound classroom management for faddish methods has also contributed. I know that, after teaching in mainstream primary and secondary and then spending 40 years in special education/disability, hard-nosed teachers with high standards are often not wanted. In the past I interviewed for positions in certain schools and realised that the Principal didn’t want a teacher, but a baby-sitter/entertainer instead.
