As we watch the Marxists across our college campuses interrupt meetings and sponsor months filled with “Whiteness Awareness” functions, we should remember that on the other side of the world an even more sinister evil lurks. Jihadis have murdered the seventh secular blogger in that country since 2013.

A secular blog, called Mukto Mona Writers Corner, published an account of the murder of blogger Nazimuddin Samad that took place two days ago.

“Today, on April 6, 2016, at approximately 9 pm in the evening, Nazimuddin Samad, a student of the Jagannath University, was hacked to death by unknown assailants in Dhaka’s Sutrapur. Nazimuddin was a courageous freethinker; he was vocal in his support for a secular and humane Bangladesh. As he was returning from his university a few young men, who came there on a motorcycle, intercepted him at the Ekrampur crossing and started hacking him with their machetes. In the end, they made sure that Nazimuddin would die by shooting him in the head. Witnesses said the assailants shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is great) as they killed Nazimuddin.”

Although Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for this murder, there are strong suspicions that a group called Ansar Bangla is behind this heinous act. Last summer CNN wrote a piece on the murders of the other secular bloggers detailing the deaths of the group’s previous victims.

“The brutal killings of the four bloggers this year have shocked many people in Bangladesh and beyond.

In February, Roy, a Bangladesh-born American blogger, was killed with machetes and knives as he walked back from a book fair in Dhaka.
A month later, Washiqur Rahman, 27, was savaged by two men with knives and meat cleaversjust outside his house as he headed to work at a travel agency in the capital.
Das, 32, was set upon with cleavers and machetes in May as he left his home on his way to work at a bank in northeastern Bangladesh. And less than two weeks ago, Neel was hacked to deathin his Dhaka apartment.”
This latest blogger was murdered with a machete as well, hacked to death and then shot in the head to seal his fate.

Unfortunately, this trend has not been limited to bloggers as a publisher of secular books was found hacked to death in his office where two other secular writers and a publisher were also injured. That attack came after assaults on other religious minorities and tourists in the country.

As the founding fathers here in the U.S. saw fit to enshrine the protection of a person’s right to practice their religion, so the Bangladeshis saw fit to enshrine a guarantee of secularism in their constitution.Unfortunately the majority Muslim nation seems to be learning, like the rest of the world, that many followers of Islam will not accept any alternate views. May Nazimuddin Samad be remembered by his countrymen, and women, as we remember those patriots whose blood watered our tree of liberty in the past; with honor and gratitude.
