jake tapper, journalist

jake tapper, journalist

apparently, there is at least one real journalist left in the government-run media. the following is an excerpt from this morning’s gaggle at the wh with baghdad bob gibbs:

Tapper: It’s escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations “not a news organization” and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it’s appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one –

(Crosstalk)

Gibbs: Jake, we render, we render an opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness that, the fairness of that coverage.

Tapper: But that’s a pretty sweeping declaration that they are “not a news organization.” How are they any different from, say –

Gibbs: ABC –

Tapper: ABC. MSNBC. Univision. I mean how are they any different?

Gibbs: You and I should watch sometime around 9 o’clock tonight. Or 5 o’clock this afternoon.

Tapper: I’m not talking about their opinion programming or issues you have with certain reports. I’m talking about saying thousands of individuals who work for a media organization, do not work for a “news organization” — why is that appropriate for the White House to say?

Gibbs: That’s our opinion.

how can the white house think that fox news, the most watched (by millions of americans mind you) cable news network is not legitimate? does that somehow translate to those who watch fox are not legitimate either? some think the war with fox is because the wh kids are a bunch of amateurs chronically campaigning. that’s true, but it’s also because they hate ‘sunlight’ and what that exposes about who they are (van jones, anita dunn, cass sunstein, kevin jennings just to name a few) and the dangerousness of their policies for our country.

as that wh nemesis, glenn beck says, ‘red’ is the new ‘green’ and that is really proving to be true in obama’s america. the white house war on fox news is alinsky-esque: containing then isolating. instead of fighting fox maybe they should consider fighting the taliban in afghanistan.

will these commie’s ever stop whining and start leading for gosh sakes?

Journalists just don’t do their jobs anymore. I amconvinced that they don’t understand that if they don’t stick up for Fox now, someday, these same tactics will be used against them.

  • Karin says:

I used to watch my news on all the different channels. Different shows/different channels. Now I watch Fox. When the other news channels stop acting like a propaganda arm for the White House, I will watch them again. I want to give our president a chance but I don’t like what he’s doing with healthcare and all the taxing and spending. I want to see Journalists ask tough questions of what’s going on. I am confused so I’m sure other Americans are too. It’s not just enough now to not like conservatives. I am a Democrat too.

  • Scarlett says:

Fox does a lot of editorializing even their anchors not just Beck and Hannity. Look at Megyn Kelly. She’s suppose to be an impartial anchor but I have heard her attack lots of times. She gets vicious. Like a dog with a bone.

  • Gene says:

Why can all the other networks, public radio, and public tvl air anti conservatism views, but anyone or any network airing pro conservative views are attacked. Not only does Obama get into the fray but he also encourages his entire admin to attack fox news. Doesn’t this sound a little Hugo Chavesish to you??

  • Rope says:

Robert Gibbs can’t compose a complete sentence without the words oh, uh, huh, ah ah, etc in it. How do you expect him to know the difference in opinion programmming and news. And his favorite catchphrase “that’s our opinion”, well Robert duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anita Dunn said this ““Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control,” “We just put that out there and “MADE” them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlling it.” CONTROL is what it’s all about. Even Helen Thomas is telling the wh to back off. “They can only take you down. You can’t kill the messenger.

  • PenniePan says:

Our President is doing exactly right to defend himself and his policies against a perverted propaganda machine like Fox from the right wing and the GOP. I am tired of Fox News constantly manipulating with bad information and slanted reporting the American people. Fox pretends that they are a news corporation but uses their platform to cultivate criticism and unrest that is vindictive and lies. Democrats are always portrayed as unAmerican with communistic or socialistic intentions to subvert the country. Look. we survived 8 long years of Shrub and his bankrupting and misgoverning this country and no one at Fox every criticized him did they? So STFU and take a chill pill for the next 7 years. Idiots.

  • Gene says:

Yes, resort to name calling! And you call us idiots. What did CNN, MSNBC, ABC as so on do to George Bush for 8 years?? He didn’t attack a single station in defending himself.

  • micky says:

“but uses their platform to cultivate criticism and unrest that is vindictive and lies.”

Opinionated programs are supposed to cultivate criticism.

Pew research has determined FOX to of given the fairest coverage during the election.

“and no one at Fox every criticized him did they? So STFU ”

And you talk about lies ?
I’ve been watching FOX for at least 10 years and can clearly remember Bush being critiqued many times.
Maybe you should shut up unless you can back up what you say

  • Marsha says:

    Pennie
Your thinned skin president has only ONE media outlet that does any negative reporting and commentary on him and he falls apart. Bush had only ONE media outlet only somewhat favorable (Fox) while all the others bashed him for eight years and he still had graciousness with them all. Obama is the one that needs to STFU.

  • Janene says:

There is an embarrassing double standard here that those of you on the left should be ashamed about. For you who hate Fox News, what do you think about MSNBC and all their leg tingles or how vicious both CNN and MSNBC were to Bush on a personal level not even policy (war criminal, drunk, idiot). If Bush’s spokesperson had said what Gibb’s said to Tapper, you all would be unglued and talk about how Bush was trying to suppress freedom of the press. Why can’t you ever defend principle?

  • Jared says:

President Obama is doing this Fox News freeze out all wrong. He really should read up on his Machiavelli: “Hold your friends close and your enemies closer.”

  • Ken says:

Yes, Obama is doing nothing more than driving up Fox’s ratings!! That must be “smart power” in action!!!

What a pathetic attempt, by an ego maniac, at punishing those who do not bow down and worship at the altar of Obama(like Pennie). I’ve never seen anything like it. Hell, even Helen Thomas was telling Obama to back off:

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/63659-thomas-to-white-house-stay-out-of-fox-news-fight

“Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas on Monday advised the Obama administration to stand down and avoid fighting with Fox News and its correspondents.”

And we all know what a huge part of the vast, right wing conspiracy, that Helen Thomas is!!!

  • lisab says:

“Democrats are always portrayed as unAmerican with communistic or socialistic intentions to subvert the country.”

    and?

  • IndianaDan says:

Social Moderate, Fiscal Conservative here… voted for Hillary in the Indiana Primary… The White House is out of control in its attacks on “perceived” enemies. It’s past time for somone to stand up to this executive branch’s attacks on freedom.

  • David says:

    Agreed.

  • lisab says:

actually i think the current administration’s thin skin and the thin skin of their obamabots is starting to backfire

think of this, obama has only been in office a year, it seems more like ten. yesterday even cnn reported obama’s poll numbers are under 50%. heck, msnbc yesterday referred to the first couple as “president obama and his wookie butt wife”. the virulent attacks on everyone who does not bow down to them is actually hurting them because everyone eventually disagrees about something … and that gets them attacked.

trees that do not bend in the wind don’t survive.

  • julie says:

Just left ABC website which indicated approx 7/10 comments were pro tapper for THIS WEEK including myself! We were voting for you Jake. ABC are idiots for this choice. Dont give up your objective hard hitting skills. They are rare these days. You can do better than the broadcast networks these days! We will not be watching THIS WEEK till they put you or an objective “real journalist” on and remove Krugman! Good Luck!
