I’m not dead, and hopefully my blog isn’t either

So, obviously I owe all of you a big explanation.

Long story short, I gave myself too much credit. As many of you know, about a month and a half ago my better half returned home from Iraq. Shortly afterwards, he had about a month of post-deployment leave. If I was a smart person, which apparently I’m not, I’d have just made things easier and arranged for a guest blogger or taken the month off or something. Instead, I told myself, Hey, it’s OK! I can shuttle back and forth between three states and go on vacations and to balls AND still blog at the same time!.

Yeah, that didn’t work out so well.

I really did spend the last month or so going back and forth, just about every week, from Florida to North Carolina. We had a ball to attend, a Disney vacation to take, and then halfway through, a death in the family. Again, with all of that on my plate, the smarter thing to do would have been to just put up a post saying I was going to be gone and try to arrange for a guest blogger. But no, I had to try to be Supergirl, and as you all have seen, even I can’t do everything. On top of all that, I had some technical difficulties on my blog, and as Matt and I forgot to pack the laptop on this last trip to NC, I was unable to fix it until I got back to Florida this week. And lo and behold, I get back and my internet is not working. I call my provider to arrange for them to come and fix it, and the day he comes to fix it, guess what happens? My entire apartment complex, as well as the one next door, gets hit with a massive power outage — no electricity for seven hours. By this morning, when the technician told me that I was going to need a new computer, I was about to throw myself off my balcony. But, everything has worked out now, and I humbly ask for your forgiveness. I am back now, 100%, and no more shuttling back and forth. Hopefully, you guys still feel like putting up with me.

In the good news department, I’m proud to announce that Matt’s been promoted this week to a Corporal — he’s now officially a non-commissioned officer, and he gets the blood stripe on the trousers now, too. I’m very, very excited for him and proud, too — it can be hard to move up in the infantry (yes, Matt is a grunt).

Anyway, this is my apology and a notification. I’m also posting some pictures after the jump, from our Disney trip and from the ball, for anyone who would like to see them.

Sorry again guys!

Good to see you back, Cassy. There’s been a few comments around the blogs wondering what happened…

  • Good to see you back. I don’t think there was a single day where I wasn’t popping by to see if something might’ve changed. Thought the Office of President-Elect might’ve sent a truth squad after you or something.

First of all, Cassy, welcome back! I’ve only recently started reading your blog and I love it.

Also, speaking as a former member of the USMC reserve officer training corps, let me congratulate your other half on his promotion to Cpl! Becoming an NCO is a big deal and he should wear that bloodstripe with pride. He’s earned it.

Tell him “Semper Fi” for me!

    OOHRAH!

Glad to have you back. Congratulations to your marine, well deserved. I’m really happy for the welcome home your marine got. Long ago when I came back it wasn’t like that – it really makes a difference.

You MUST blog about that little speedboat in your pics.
Were they fun? Fast? Where can they be found or rented?

from one Marine to another please give my utmost congratulations to your man on his promotion. I didn’t read you post at first but seeing him the first thought that came to mind was “that’s a Marine”

    Congratulations again.
