How to Remove Yourself From Background Check Websites

How to Remove Yourself From Background Check Websites

We scour the web so you don’t have to (but for the record, you should be).

Sites like intelius.com, peoplesearch, zabasearch, and other very intrusive and annoying sites store your data.  For a fairly small fee, they will give me your name, addresses for as far back as I want, age, date of birth, SSN, phone number, email, family members, friends, employment records, arrests, credit report, and anything else I want.  Armed with this data, I can concoct a plausible story and literally become you.  All it takes is memorizing your data, going to the library for instance, and getting a card.  With that (especially if you go to a library that does photos on their IDs), I can keep whittling away at building my new life at your expense—and that’s not even counting what the NSA might be doing with your info.  I can, with enough time, patience, and persistence, eventually get credit, take over your accounts, and do all manner of awful things, because I’m you now.  Mother’s maiden name?  I have that too.  You want these websites to remove you, trust me.

This guide from reddit technology lists all the big players in the data site field, along with the process you need to remove yourself from each of them.  I’ll warn you up front—it’s a bit tedious.  It’s annoying.  You’re going to have to scan your driver’s license (with picture and license number covered) to prove that you’re you.  And you need to do each site separately.  That being said, you want to do this.  In fact, if you’re serious about privacy, expect to put some work into learning a whole new world.  Don’t believe me, however…check for yourself.  Go to Zabasearch or Intelius and do a search for yourself.  Then go to reddit and get yourself out of the data target business.

While you’re at it:

Check out the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Surveillance Self-Defense Project.

Last but VERY MUCH not least, go to PRISM-Break.org, and look at alternative programs you can use that will not hand you over to the NSA on a silver platter.

Let’s see. Was it Henry Gibson who portrayed a comic German officer on a TV sitcom? If so, and you recall his pronunciation and rhythm of speech, then think of it as you read the following: You seem to be very, very, very concerned about this. WHY!!! What have done? What have you to hide? You have secrets, do you? Well, maybe, you just have too many of them. That’s not good. Perhaps, we should have a very long talk. No handcuffs, nor bright lights. Well, not at first. It all depends whether you are cooperative. After all, what have you got to hide? You’re among friends!

Thanks for all the info, but PLEASE remove all the titillating pictures from this site!
As a Christian constitutional conservative, I don’t need to flaunt my femininity to be taken seriously. Neither do you! We have the truth, and that speaks for itself.
    Keep up the good work.
    Blessings,
    Karen Gushta

Karen thanks for visiting the blog. We appreciate it and your commenting. We hope you will become a regular around here.

That said, from one Christian Constitutional Conservative to another, our blog theme is a respectful vintage WWII theme not simply a blog with “titillating pictures” intended to “flaunt our femininity”. We believe our writing which can be stacked up against anyone – male or female – speaks for itself.

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I think there may be a disconnect in how each of us views the term “constitutional conservative.” To me, that means someone who espouses things like free speech, or the right to self defense and freedom from unreasonable search. It does not, however, extend to ensuring that “titillating pictures” of vintage pinups are removed from sites I visit.

As a former aircraft mechanic and lifelong aviation enthusiast, I’ve seen pics like this my whole life. They’re part of our culture, and conjure up images for me of American fighting men going out to near certain death over and over. They’re reminders of a different time and I daresay a better one.

I’m proud to be part of this group of writers, and I’m proud of the history behind our images. I am a constitutional conservative, and so perhaps you’ll forgive me if I’m a bit too busy fighting the gross violations of our rights or the slaughter of innocent unborn children to worry about a bit of leg on the front page.

Karen, you are absolutely right. Great site, but the nearly naked girl at the top of this site leaves nothing to the imagination, and I am a guy. Man, did they go overboard with those naked women on B-17s and B-29s in WWII.

I was born in1944, so I’ve seen these kinds of pictures pretty much all of my life, never been offended….and, yes, I am a Christian, a fiscal conservative and a GBI (God Blessed Independent)…and a 70 year old woman. These pictures became popular when our GIs were overseas in WWII, Betty Grable was the #1 pinup girl, but many other actresses & singers posed, signed their photos & sent them to the troops. During Korea, Marilyn Monroe was very popular, and Ann-Margaret was huge during Vietnam. Don’t know who’s the pinup girl nowadays…..anybody have any idea?! Nothing cheers a guy up like a photo of a beautiful woman!! In the 40’s & 50’s there was an artist that did these types of pictures, very good pictures, Marilyn Monroe posed for some…these were sketches, not photos…he was quite famous, but, I forget his name.

The name you are looking for, I think, is Alberto Vargas. The pinup at the top of the page is one of his. In my opinion, he was the premier artist of the genre.

    1) Concerning websites in general, there any number of them which are presented as “conservative”. Yet, they sure do show you know whose “mug” to the point of being obsessive. I realize they have much to say, yet can’t they find a better way than giving numerous views of “public enemy number one”. So, thank VictoryGirls for not falling into that scheme of things.

    2) As for the photos, keep’em. What man could ask for more: beauty and brains! (grin).

Gimme a frikken break! I am a female and am NOT offended by those pictures. I am a CHRISTIAN and am NOT offended by those pictures. Stupid, prudish, idiot “Christians” that demand the rest of us conform to THEIR standards have much in common with Islamists who demand the same. Get a life! If you don’t like the pictures, GO AWAY, DON’T LOOK! But do NOT demand that anyone ELSE live life the way YOU want us to live. What are you? Slave masters???? You give Christians a bad name and real Christians want nothing to do with you. YOU ARE NOT IN CHARGE OF ME. NOR ARE YOU IN CHARGE OF THIS WEBSITE.
