FEMA Is Broke, So Who Is Trying To Save Appalachia?

Our Deanna told you this morning that FEMA is broke. If you haven’t read her eye-opening, great post, you can read it here. People in Appalachia are dead or dying, entire towns are wiped out. There is no access to these mountain towns or isolated homes. Who is trying to save Appalachians?

I suppose the Appalachians should be grateful (sarc) because the poor residents of Lahaina, Hawaii only got $700.00 after the Maui fire. The residents affected by Hurricane Helene have been offered $750.00 as Deanna told you. Yippee Skippy. And, as she told you, FEMA spent all our money on illegal aliens. Why? A quick perusal of the FEMA website might provide an answer.

FEMA

You’ve lost everything. You are dehydrated. You need insulin. FEMA is worried about EQUITY. You don’t give a flying fungus about equity. The Left/Deep State hate us. They really hate us.

The Appalachian people are getting help. Who is trying to save Appalachia?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who else? From the Tampa Bay Times:

As Florida communities begin to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday made clear his focus is not just on helping the state — he is also invested in devoting state resources to those impacted in North Carolina and Tennessee.

“Florida, we have it handled,” the governor said at a news conference in Steinhatchee, one of the many coastal towns ravaged by the storm, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm late last week.

That’s so Ron DeSantis. Prepared, took care of his own, and now, helping others.

Florida Congressman Cory Mills (R-7), again, who else? He has been part of rescues in Afghanistan, Israel/Gaza and Haiti. Now, he is doing it on U.S. Continental soil:

Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) is on site in western North Carolina helping provide supplies and evacuation support to the communities devastated by Hurricane Helene.

Mills on Monday focused on dropping in with a helicopter to provide supplies like food, water, and diapers to those impacted by the storms.

“Today we were able to drop between three, four thousand pounds of supplies into Asheville, North Carolina,” Mills said in a video posted to the social platform X.

On Tuesday, Mills said he planned to do welfare checks, drop more supplies, or provide transportation to a nearby hospital or medical facility if necessary.

“What we’re going to be looking at are areas that are harder to get to,” Mills said in a video shared with The Hill, saying that one of the locations they were targeting Tuesday has elderly people, while another had an 8-year-old. One area being targeted is Burnsville, N.C.

FEMA isn’t ponying up, but you know who isn’t helping? Let’s Go Brandon:

Irresponsible and intentional. Cory Mills was with the 82nd when he served in the Army. He is so All-American.

The hardy and hearty Mountain Folk are helping themselves where they can:

The government didn’t make the roads back in the Revolutionary War. The people made the roads:

I cannot leave out my beloved Tennessee Volunteers. My late Father-in-law graduated from Cosby High School up in Cocke County. Go Big Orange. #GBO

Even though Samaritan’s Purse is in the area affected by Hurricane Helene, they are still stepping up to help the victims:

After decades of lifting others out of devastating circumstances, these good Samaritans have found themselves in a crisis of their own.

Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief organization, is no stranger to reducing tremendous suffering and damage in communities all over the world. After Hurricane Helene tore through much of the South this past weekend — including the group’s headquarters in Boone, North Carolina — Samaritan’s Purse organizers had to find a way to help others as well as themselves.

Once Helene robbed millions of Americans of their electricity and running water, the focus had to become more local.

Volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse wasted no time in beginning to eradicate the masses of trees and branches suffocating the houses and roads of North Carolina. One of the most immediate issues has been roof damage. Given the extent of the damage, it seems all the volunteers can offer are band-aids in the form of tarps. But even these temporary fixes are better than a leaky roof and a flooded home.

Finally, Mercury One, founded by Glenn Beck, is helping to fund Cory Mills’ efforts. Mercury One helped fund many rescue and relief operations. The website is here.

Always remember how much the Deep State and Liberals hate you.

Sent some money to Samaritan’s Purse. Expect it will be well spent.

They got an enormous, scary amount of rain. i am living in Ohio now, but I spent most of my life growing up in the southeast. Lived through several hurricanes in Texas and Mississippi, and I have had enough of the awful things.

The rainfall that a hurricane or even a tropical depression can generate is frightful. In the flat lands of the Texas coast, there is no place for the water to go. That is bad! The only thing you can do is buy your house on relatively high ground and hope for the best. In hilly areas, however, the water can move with terrible force down engorged streams. Then what looks pretty in normal times …..

As the Bible says, built on rock, not sand.

We have built our government upon the sand of unprincipled people making empty promises. We need to return to the principles of the founders and replace our current leaders with honest people.

As the Bible says, build on rock, not sand.

It will take a lot more than “competent leaders” to turn things around. One of the biggest requirement to turning things around is to make Americans believe once again that THEY are the best first line of all defense – against disasters, poverty, crime, violence, and even invasion.

Once Americans stop wanting to rely on government to handle all of their problems, we can reduce the gov’t to it’s proper (American) size.

If we don’t do that, we will descend into just another oligarchy, with the priests and prophets of Progressivism forcing us all to kneel before their gods (themselves).

And it was bullcarp when she said it, and it’s bullcarp now.
They are not broke. They “ran out of money” because it’s no longer FY24, and so they aren’t allowed to access FY24 funds anymore. And the new fiscal year is currently running on a Continuing Resolution – which means they don’t have the funds they requested in the 2025 budget. That’s all. He even said they have special authority to call on money that’s distributed through the year and get it early.

And, they’re not out of money because of the fraud, waste, and abuse going on with carp like paying for illegals. I guarantee that was in their budgeted amount for FY24, and apart from the funds they requested for actual disaster relief. But none of that even impacts the current goings on, as FY24 is now closed out and they can access FY25 funds (which as of the morning of 1 October had not spent a dime on illegal aliens, yet)

    and now, helping others
I’m glad he is doing that. But I am also going to ask, “Where is his legal authority to spend funds budgeted by the taxpayers of Florida on the residents of other states?” I don’t care how otherwise conservative he is, if he’s not bound by the law, then he isn’t a good governor. (And if there is authorization in Florida law to do that, then I’m fine with it.)

    Irresponsible and intentional.
    Intentional? Really? Hoo boy….
(BTW, this is one reason most people who actually handle disaster relief don’t want anyone like a President coming around at all – because their security requirements prevent real work from going on. It’s also true of war zones, btw – none of the warfighters wanted Hillary in Tuzla, either, and not because of the politics.)

horses and pack mules are going deep into the hills
Yes, there are helpful asses and un-helpful ones….

The government didn’t make the roads back in the Revolutionary War.
Really? So, the Braddock Road (which George Washington was on that expedition) wasn’t government funded/driven? Interesting, because history would say otherwise.

instead of waiting for the government to do something
Good on them. That’s exactly what sets Americans (American Classic, not New American) apart.

FEMA is broke because it gave your hard earned money away.
No. It isn’t. It’s not broke at all, actually.
