You knew it was coming. Another couple is being held captive in Afghanistan, and their families are now releasing videos of them sent to them by an Afghani who claimed ties to the Taliban. The families say that they are hoping that the American government will get their loved ones released, too.
“It would be no more appropriate to have our government turn their backs on their citizens than to turn their backs on those who serve,” Patrick Boyle, a Canadian judge and the father of Joshua Boyle, said in a telephone interview.
While certainly we would all like any hostages to come home, Patrick Boyle’s comment about “those who serve” is a bit misguided; I doubt at this point anyone would characterize Bowe Bergdahl as having “served” anything but himself and maybe the Taliban.
The woman is American and was pregnant at the time of her abduction; the child would be about 18 months old now. Joshua Boyle, her husband, is Canadian. The family worries that the child is not seen or mentioned in any of the videos.
Keep in mind that this couple decided to go be tourists in Afghanistan, one of the most dangerous countries in the world to be an American in.
“They really and truly believed that if people were loved and treated with respect that that would be given back to them in kind,” said Linda Boyle, Boyle’s mother. “So as odd it as it may seem to us that they were there, they truly believed with all their heart that if they treated people properly, they would be treated properly.”
Remember what I said the other day about the difference between facts and beliefs? There’s such a thing as the Flat Earth Society. They have beliefs too, and I’ll just let you figure out the validity of those beliefs yourself. Bottom line is, this couple decided against any sane advice, against all known information on the subject, the country and the culture, that it would be a good idea to go hang out in what the husband admitted was an “unsafe” part of Afghanistan. Aaaand, they got kidnapped. Color me shocked. Granted, in no way am I saying they deserved to be kidnapped; I’m simply pointing out that they chose to put themselves in the middle of the freeway, thinking that as long as they waved nicely to the cars, none would hit them. Now, their families are asking Obama to “do something” to get back their loved ones—who, I’m guessing, aren’t big fans of Afghanistan anymore.
Now that we know the going rate for prisoner transfers, does this mean that Obama will circumvent Congress and the law again to release ten more murderous Muslim thugs?
Everyone with half a brain saw this coming once the news hit we traded prisoners for an hostage. Everyone now wants the US to help them with their poor judgment.
For those that don’t believe there are bad people in the world who have no problem doing you harm, you either wake up or become a victim.
I’d like to say I’m sorry to hear about this family but I can’t as it was their inability or unwillingness to understand that in this world there are places where just being an American make you a target regardless of how nice you are or your world view.
For the lefties that will tell me to evolve etc….I believe God gave us that brain to do as Darwin states, evolve! Man has done this to the point were we can now take care of the weakest of our species, however, there are times when those of use that have evolved can’t or shouldn’t do anything to save those who refuse to evolve.
Ruh roh…. So how much is a woman and child worth these days in the Stan? Worth enough for Obutthead to let some more terrorist a$$holes out of Gitmo?
C’mon Barry, you did it for a deserter and traitorous POS who abandoned his buddies and chose his fate. What you gonna do when the Talibs say they are going to kill her?
This is what happens when you negotiate with terrorists.
