If ever you feel mildly tempted to think that those in media have more intelligence than the average American, remember Margaret Brennan of CBS, who is an idiot and a clown.
She conducted an interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio today, who was in Jerusalem after having strategic talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Gaza and Iran. But Margaret Brennan was very upset about Vice President J.D. Vance’s speech in Munich two days ago, where he warned Europe about losing their own freedoms. Brennan then took that one step further during her interview with Rubio, because according to her, Vance then met with the head of the “far right” AfD political party in Germany, and that’s just WRONG because the last time a “far right” party got political power thanks to freedom of speech, the Holocaust happened.
Yeah, that’s what she said.
Margaret Brennan embarrasses herself again
MB: “You’re standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to commit a genocide.”
Rubio: “Free speech was not weaponized to commit a genocide. The genocide was committed by an authoritarian Nazi regime.”pic.twitter.com/Yq8eji9YEa

BRENNAN: Well, he was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide, and he met with the head of a political party that has far-right views and some historic ties to extreme groups. The context of that was changing the tone of it. And you know that, that the censorship was specifically about the right.
RUBIO: Well, I have to disagree with you.
[CROSSTALK]RUBIO: No, no.
[CROSSTALK]RUBIO: No, I have to disagree with you. Free speech was not used to conduct a genocide. The genocide was conducted by an authoritarian Nazi regime that happened to also be genocidal because they hated Jews and they hated minorities and they hated those that they had a list of people they hated, but primarily the Jews. There was no free speech in Nazi Germany. There was none. There was also no opposition in Nazi Germany. They were a sole and only party that governed that country. So, that’s not an accurate reflection of history.
J.D. Vance, who tangled with Margaret Brennan during the vice presidential debate, and already helped create a meme regarding an interview he had with her not that long ago, weighed in on Brennan’s ignorance via X.
This is a crazy exchange.
Does the media really think the holocaust was caused by free speech? https://t.co/EBUKx75Wfm

Given the track record of the media after October 7th, I’d say that Vance is probably correct. But Margaret Brennan is simply parroting in what is called the “Weimar fallacy.” The idea that the post-World War I Weimar Republic of Germany collapsed due to free speech – allowing the Holocaust to take place – is just historically wrong, especially when it came to censoring the Nazi Party.
Nazi publications were frequently banned during the Weimar years. The Nazi party newspaper, the Völkischer Beobachter, was temporarily suspended many times for anti-Semitic excesses in the early 1920s. After Hitler’s failed coup attempt in 1923 both the Nazi party and its newspaper were banned until 1925. Most German states also banned him from speaking publicly between 1925 and 1927. But in retrospect Hitler concluded that on balance the ban was a benefit as it boosted his fame and popularity.
Two other newspapers, Joseph Goebbels’ Der Angriff (the attack) and Julian Streicher’s virulently anti-Semitic Der Stürmer (the striker) were also subject to what today would be called anti hate speech laws. The former had Bernhard Weiss, the Jewish vice president of the Berlin police force, as one of its favourite targets. But his attempts at legal action helped Goebbels portray the paper as the victim of a Jewish conspiracy to enslave the German people.
The censorship ended up making Adolf Hitler a “political martyr” – and paved the way for his election in 1933.

And once the Nazis came to power, there was no more pretense at “freedom of speech.” In fact, Vice President Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance just visited Dachau while in Munich. Notice the dates listed when the Vances place a wreath at the camp. It says “1933-1945” on that wall.
Dachau was the first concentration camp built by the Nazis, and it was meant to be used to suppress all political opposition to them.
The Dachau concentration camp was established in March 1933. It was the first regular concentration camp established by the National Socialist (Nazi) government. Heinrich Himmler, as police president of Munich, officially described the camp as “the first concentration camp for political prisoners.”
It was located on the grounds of an abandoned munitions factory near the northeastern part of the town of Dachau, about 10 miles northwest of Munich in southern Germany. On March 22, 1933, the first prisoner transports arrived at the camp.
During the first year, the camp had a capacity of 5,000 prisoners. Initially the internees were primarily German Communists, Social Democrats, trade unionists, and other political opponents of the Nazi regime. Over time, other groups were also interned at Dachau, such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Roma (Gypsies), gay men, as well as “asocials” and repeat criminal offenders. During the early years relatively few Jews were interned in Dachau and then usually because they belonged to one of the above groups or had completed prison sentences after being convicted for violating the Nuremberg Laws of 1935.
Where’s the free speech, Margaret? Can’t seem to find it anywhere here!
If Margaret Brennan has specific complaints about AfD (which stands for “Alternative for Deutschland”) and their anti-immigration platform, she could address that with either Vance or Rubio. She could ask logical questions about the wisdom of meeting with party leaders in Germany during an election season. But nope, she’s gotta go for the full clown show and go straight to the Holocaust, with the ulterior motive of discrediting those who disagree with her.
This is a worldview they've had that is behind advocating deplatforming people they don't like. It's not a slip up. It's behind the entire motivations and philosophy of modern corporate clique media. https://t.co/owtuXHFl96

CBS, could you maybe hire a real journalist and not a talking airhead like Margaret Brennan who routinely embarrasses herself on camera? Or is this really the best and brightest that the “legacy” media has left to offer the public? Because she’s neither.

Margaret, I know that the requirements for being a journalist are low but you really should rise above them once in a while.
The National Socialists were a far Left party.
Holocaust Encyclopedia: “May 10, 1933, Nazi-dominated student groups carried out public burnings of books they claimed were “un-German.” The book burnings took place in 34 university towns and cities.”
Would burning books that didn’t meet National Socialist ‘standards’ be considered by this leftist dipstick as restriction of free speech? Of course the woke left don’t like being reminded that Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels, et al claimed to be socialists, hence their admiration of the German Volk as the foundation of the German [NSDAP] nation.
Well said. Even Wikipedia has fallen into the word-salad trap of calling NAZI’s “far right!”
Margaret, you should have Sophie Scholl on your show sometime to talk about free speech in the Third Reich. Oh, wait…never mind.
Margaret is wearing a brown Hitler shirt.
In “good conscience” we can not stand by while the left continues it’s propaganda to label the Nazi Party a “far right” party. It was a Socialist Party. Even its initials “NAZI” tell us it was a Socialist Party. Unfortunately, its usage has become synonymous with “Far Right.” And it has become more Despised than the word “Communism.”
The Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei [NSDAP] was grew out of the Deutsche Arbeiterpartei [DAP]. AH was a member of the DAP and gradually took over until the DAP was renamed the NSDAP on February 24, 1920. AH hated the Reds whom he blamed for Germany’s defeat. Even so he was still a socialist, but not an international socialist like Joseph Stalin.

When I read the lists of the victims of Nazism, I note that Catholics are left off.
The first inhabitants of Dachau were members of the Catholic Center Party.
Dachau was built in Bavaria. Bavaria was a Catholic region where the Nazis lost to the Catholic Center Party.
Dachau had rows of “Priests’ Barracks” where Catholic priests were housed for their anti-Nazi activities.
There has been a lot of effort made to airbrush Catholic out and insert homosexual, against whom the Nazis did not institute a persecution; many Nazi leaders were homosexual.
