A Surgeon General pick shouldn’t cause this much drama—but in 2025, it did. Trump named Dr. Janette Nesheiwat. Then RFK Jr. floated Casey Means. Enter Laura Loomer, and everything spiraled from there.

Being from Alabama, where we still believe in biscuits, gravy, and minding our own business, maybe I wasn’t the most plugged-in person to track this whole Make America Healthy Again Surgeon General saga. But eventually, Laura Loomer made so much noise she drowned out my coffee maker.

The Pick That Launched a Soap Opera

What I found wasn’t a serious conversation about public health—it was drama, plain and simple. The kind you’d expect from a bad soap opera, not a Surgeon General pick. Social media fights, personal jabs, and ego trips everywhere.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a Thursday interview said President Trump’s new nominee for surgeon general turned away from modern medicine because “she was not curing patients.”

Casey Means, an ally of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement, has come under scrutiny since Trump made her the surgeon general pick, as she never finished her residency and does not have an active medical license.

Kennedy defended Means during the interview Thursday on Fox News’s “Special Report.”

“She walked away from traditional medicine because she was not curing patients,” Kennedy said.

“She couldn’t get anybody within her profession to look at the nutrition contributions to illness, and she said, ‘If we’re really going to heal people, if we’re healers, we can’t just be making our life about billing new procedures,’” he told host Brett Baier. – The Hill

Fair point. If that checks out, I’m listening.

At first, Trump named Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as his pick for Surgeon General. She’s the doc who’d been on Fox News a lot, and on the surface, she seemed like a solid, no-nonsense choice. But a lot of conservatives didn’t forget how strongly she backed COVID lockdowns and vaccine mandates. Just like that, she disappeared from the picture.

Kennedy defended Trump’s pick for the role after pulling the nomination of Janette Nesheiwat, a physician and former Fox News contributor.

“We actually have to figure out new approaches to medicine, and that’s the kind of leadership that she’s going to bring to our country,” he said.

Kennedy’s former presidential running mate Nicole Shanahan and others have criticized Means’s nomination. – The Hill

We’ll get to the Nicole Shanahan plot twist in a minute.

But by that point, RFK Jr. had already floated Dr. Casey Means—a wellness influencer focused on plant-based nutrition and biohacking.

And that’s when Laura Loomer detonated.

Calley Means Fires Back at Loomer

And because no political feud in 2025 is complete without a family member jumping in, Casey Means’ brother, Calley, has been all over X, going scorched earth on Laura Loomer. He’s posted video clips, long threads, and plenty of personal jabs—defending his sister like it’s a tag-team cage match. At this point, it’s less a debate over Surgeon General and more a full-blown sibling-fronted PR war.

Bless, this is like watching a fast and furious round of political pickleball that is all spin with no direction. Look, do I think Laura Loomer’s about two spoons short of a full silverware drawer? I do. And why she seems to have so much influence over Trump is beyond me. Maybe he uses her pot-stirring as a way to gauge the room—to see what grabs attention and what fizzles out. And I hate to admit it, but every now and then, Loomer does stumble into a truth or two. But for the sake of time (and my blood pressure), let’s move on.

Meanwhile, in the B Plot…

And just when you thought the drama had settled, Nicole Shanahan—RFK Jr.’s former VP pick—popped back up saying she feels completely betrayed. According to her, she only agreed to join him under the promise that the Means family would have nothing to do with him. Now here comes Casey Means being floated as Surgeon General, and Shanahan says either RFK Jr. lied to her or someone else is calling the shots.

Megyn Kelly had Link Lauren on her show the other day and they break down the specifics:

Goodness gracious, if you’ve made it through this whole drama, you’ve earned yourself a perfectly grilled rare steak—or at the very least, a stiff drink.

So what’s all this really about?

The Surgeon General doesn’t make laws, but they do set the tone on public health—and after everything Americans were put through during COVID, that role hits a nerve. People want someone they can trust, not another figurehead pushing whatever narrative comes with the biggest donor check. That’s why this pick—who it is, how it was rolled out, and who’s mad about it—turned into a mess faster than you can say “mask mandate.”

After everything we’ve been through, it’s no wonder people don’t know what to believe anymore. We’ve been lied to so often by the government, the media, and whichever “expert” had the biggest paycheck tied to the latest study. The messaging changed by the week, but we were expected to play along like it all still made sense.

So when stuff like this Surgeon General drama pops off, people aren’t just annoyed—they’re tired of the games. Doesn’t matter if it’s Trump, RFK Jr., or anyone else making the call. After years of mixed messages and money-backed “studies,” folks are just trying to sort out what’s real—and wondering if they’ll ever get a straight answer.

Laura Loomer (who?) is a psycho. Having heard the Means on Joe R., they are very sensible. Laura is the type of “right-wing” fanatic that the leftists point to, and say, “See., A bunch of crazies.”

I agree with Bobby above that Loomer is a crazy person.
That doesn’t mean she is wrong about this.
At the very least, a Surgeon general should be an MD, with a license to practice, a completed residency, and several years of comprehensive experience under his or her belt.
Not “well, after med school I didn’t complete my residency and turned away from modern medicine because I was not curing patients”. She doesn’t have anywhere near enough experience “curing patients” to make that call.
    Good Lord.
