After a year and a half of controversy and legal battles, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf have decided to come together for the good of Saudi Arabia.
Late in 2021, the launch of LIV Golf had many folks upset because it was funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The PGA Tour’s commissioner, Jay Monahan, reminded you of the atrocities financed by Saudia Arabia by bringing up the families of the 9/11 victims.
Throughout this period of upheaval, PGA Tour officials have made strong statements condemning LIV Golf, with Commissioner Jay Monahan even invoking the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Critics have characterized the players’ massive salaries as “blood money,” calling out the Saudi regime’s history of human rights abuses and its role in the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. (In 2021, Mickelson reportedly acknowledged the country’s “horrible record on human rights” but described the possibility of LIV involvement as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates” ― comments for which he later apologized.) – Huffpost
But it’s a different story now. And Terry Strada, the National Chair for the 9/11 Families United, also had a few things to say about the merger. And especially about how the PGA Tour, Jay Monahan, and Jimmy Dunne quickly sold their souls, betraying the 9/11 community.
In a statement from the 9/11 Families United website:
Washington, D.C. – 9/11 Families United is shocked and deeply offended by the newly announced merger between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf league that is bankrolled by billions of sportswashing money from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Saudi operatives played a role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and now it is bankrolling all of professional golf.
You can read the complete statement here. Terry Strada lost her husband, Tom, in the 9/11 attacks.
From her LinkedIn profile:
I am passionate about seeking justice for the murder of my husband and all those killed and injured on 9/11. By enacting legislation that will deter future terrorist attacks by establishing jurisdiction for lawsuits against Nations that knowingly support designated terrorist organizations that carry out attacks against U.S. citizens on American soil, we can and will diminish the flow of money funding the evil ideology that continues to threaten our national security and citizens.
By exposing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s role in substantially supporting the September 11th attacks – not only the funding, but also the logistical aid to the 19 hijackers while they were here in this country for 12-18 months prior to the attacks living amongst us, we will achieve the truth, accountability and justice the 9/11 victims’ families, survivors and the American people deserve. www.911familiesunited.org

The 9/11 Families United came together to get answers and transparency from our government about the 9/11 attacks. It’s been a long haul, but they have a page on their website called Key Documents. The latest update was – Excerpts of a Sampling of Publicly Available Documents Regarding Connections Between Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and September 11, 2001, Terrorist Attacks.
And now Congress may get involved, or maybe not. Rumors of revoking the PGA Tour’s tax-exempt status are floating around. But will it matter now, after the merger?
While Jay Mohanan announced the merger this week, it was a man by the name of Jimmy Dunne who did the deal.
Jimmy Dunne is the man who negotiated the PGA Tour/LIV Golf merger. He is a big wig in the financial world and reportedly has ties to 9/11 himself. Dunne is vice-chairman and senior managing principal of Piper Sandler. His office is based in the firm’s West Palm Beach location. Dunne is on the PGA Tour policy board and a trusted advisor to Monahan’s inner circle.
Piper Sandler had offices in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The company lost 66 people on 9/11. Before this week, Dunne seemed to have an axe to grind with LIV Golf in its early inception. And whew-boy, did he talk about it in an interview he gave Sports Illustrated last year, in June 2022.
“I don’t like it when they say they’re ‘growing the game,’” Dunne said. “That’s crap. I don’t even like it when they say ‘I have to do what’s best for my family.’ I really wonder how many of those guys, the lifestyle that they were living was so horrible that their family needed them to do this. Just say, ‘I’m at a point in my career where I (want to) make five times as much money against much weaker competition and play less.’ Just tell the truth. Don’t cover it with a lot of crap.”
Dunne said LIV CEO Greg Norman “is the luckiest man in the world, because he had this vendetta his whole career and he found someone to bankroll it.” Dunne understands that LIV is a threat to the PGA Tour. But he thinks it’s also a threat to the psyches of golfers who join it.
Oh, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, how much has changed in one year. In an interview this month, June 2023, in The Palm Beach Post, he says regarding the merger:
“I am quite certain, and I have had conversations with a lot of very knowledgeable people, that the people I’m dealing with had nothing to do with it,” Dunne told the Golf Channel.
“If someone can find someone who unequivocally was involved with (9/11), I’ll kill them myself.”
Sure, Jimmy, sure.
The PGA Tour is no longer America’s sport. It now belongs to the largest country in the Arabian Peninsula for nothing but fame and fortune.
And an FYI, The PGA of America is unrelated to the PGA Tour. The PGA of America helps grow the sport and includes a wide variety of club professionals in the golf industry, whereas the PGA Tour is solely for touring players and their money-grabbing administrators.
