Irony has been dead on the Left for some time and nothing underlines it more than watching a pro-assassination mob at UC Berkeley try to shut down Monday’s TPUSA event.

The year was 1964 and UC Berkeley birthed a radical student led Free Speech Movement. At the time, political actions among students, such as fundraising and passing out information, was strictly limited to the Democratic and Republican student clubs. And while it FSM was a product of the far-Left and tied up with anti-Vietnam War, anti-USA, pro-socialist protests, by 1965 the university did open part of the campus to all student viewpoints for political activism.

And yet, here we are in 2025 where UC Berkeley professes “free speech is indispensable” and yet threats and harassment of TPUSA is allowed.

I’m talking specifically about the latest public display of pure evil that happened at the University of California at Berkeley last night when Turning Point USA (TPUSA) tried to host an event. To say Antifa tried to disrupt it would be a gross mischaracterization. Antifa became the very personification of evil with its chants, its signs, its violence and physical attacks, along with other public displays of the worst of human nature.

Antifa operatives and their naïve, brainwashed followers rushed barriers and police lines. They set off a smoke grenade. They shouted obscenities and some of the most heartless insults you can imagine at people waiting in line to attend the TPUSA event. This is how Antifa celebrates Charlie’s murder.

Note the banner: “TPUSA – Out of the Bay”. How tolerant and inclusive, right?

At the 1:13 mark is some graying, pony-tailed Boomer outside the event-space shaking his fist while leading a chant of Fascists Out Of Berkeley! Probably the first time in several years he’s become a little tumescent.

But yeah, Free Speech — by way of Marx …

Despite the chaotic scenes outside, organizers said the hours-long event — hosted by actor and comedian Rob Schneider and Christian author Dr. Frank Turek — went off without a hitch inside.

“Despite Antifa thugs blocking our campus tour stop with tear gas, fireworks, and glass bottles, we had a PACKED HOUSE in the heart of deep blue UC Berkeley,” TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet said.

“God bless these brave students.”

My question is why on earth do students wanting to listen to speakers have to exhibit any bravery? I don’t have to be “brave” to go to the local cineplex to watch a movie or attend a church service or a football game. Exactly why should I have to worry about my personal safety by going to a political event while Conservative?

Oh, right. Because the originators of the Free Speech Movement in 1964 were never honest. It was always about free speech for them, never for anyone outside the party. In 2025 they’ve already shown they are willing to murder for it and the fact that TPUSA is daring to still show up infuriates them.

UC Berkeley can claim it was braced for protests but as the barriers are breached and the mob is at the door, those claims are pretty hollow. The DOJ is, rightly, going to open an investigation. And where in the world is Gruesome Newsom?
