barack obama: ‘unbecoming, unpersuasive’

peggy noonan and i have a love/hate relationship. in the 90’s, when i was still developing my political core, i read her all the time — i learned so much from her smart insights and really loved her eloquence. i was indeed her biggest fan. then she ate worms or something because she became an elitist, a so-called gop purist of the worse kind, and went to crazy town over sarah palin.

i now only occasionally read her, but in today’s article, she lets nobel peace prize laureate, barack obama, know he owns the ‘mess’ he claims he only ‘inherited’ and it’s now his rubble and he should stop whining, roll up his sleeves and get to work:

The president doesn’t seem to like this moment. Who would? He and his men and women have returned to referring to what they “inherited.” And what they inherited was, truly, terrible: again, a severe economic crisis and two wars. But their recent return to this theme is unbecoming. Worse, it is politically unpersuasive. It sounds defensive, like a dodge. . . .

This is not a sign of confidence. . . .

But the point on the We Inherited a Terrible Situation and It’s Not Our Fault argument is, again, that it is worse than unbecoming. It is unpersuasive.

well duh, peggy – i’m still annoyed with you. nevertheless, it’s a terrific article. go read the whole thing.

Well I held my nose and read it Kate. I don’t think she is as good as she use to be. She still seems to have a bit of the Obama-glow still on her. But at least she isn’t licking his boots like before.

Peggy Noonan sees an opportunity to get back into the good graces of her Republican readership without completely burning her bridges with Obama’s people. I think she uses too many words to say something simple. She’s an idiot.

I just read the article. I think PN still has the hots for Barack. Who doesn’t really?

  • Janice says:

I use to like Peggy too. Not any more. I even must say this chastisement of BHO is mild.

    “Who doesn’t really ?”

obama is clearly falling apart. the last two or three weeks have been a disaster for him.

even cnn polls show him under 50% and also dropping faster than any other president.

obama needs a game changer. he is being killed by a 1,000 cuts.

  • I am really not all the familiar with her, most of my knowledge of her has to do with her reaction to Sarah Palin. Since I happen to be a big fan of Palin, that clouds my judgement.

I think ultimately what it comes down to, people wanted change, not a complete makeover. They are over reaching and American’s really do want government to move slowly. We don’t like rocking the boat to quickly and too often.

But she is right, he has to stop blaming Bush. We are way over it. Grow up, take responsibility and do the job you were hired to do; Lead.

  • Lyn says:

This is all about Noonan trying to get back in good standing with conservatives. The truth is that she burned many bridged when she attacked Palin and gushed over Obama. I won’t read her anymore. She cashed in on her Reagan conservative crede ntials for decades but the truth is she’s just a RINO.
