Since it is an average, the only way to get rid of it is to pay babysitters the same as dentists, pay waitresses the same as engineers.
Let’s just pay everyone $15 / hr. Some will win and some will lose.
Math is easy.
In my business, we pay $2 million in payroll every year.
If we could save 20% ($400,000 annually) or whatever the wage gap is supposed to be simply by employing women instead of men, can you guess how many men we’d be employing (hopefully besides me?)
Same with every other employer out there – businesses aren’t stupid.
