are you watching the lying backpeddling confirmation hearings of judge sonia sotomayor? let me be perfectly clear: judge sotomayor has been a shameless race baiter, 2nd amendment hater, anti-constitutional, seems somewhat intellectually lazy, and an old school feminist who’s many good accomplishments have served to bolster ridiculous pc thinking and affirmative action in this country.

now having said that, the truth is that when these ‘seinfeld hearings’ are over, sonia sotomayor will be confirmed by a healthy margin and will be a justice on the supreme court for the rest of her life or if she were to resign like justice david souter.
she never really explained adequately her ‘wise latina’ speechifying but rather backpeddled by calling it a comment that fell flat. well ya. her ‘compelling life story’ which was promoted over and over seems to supercede all those other ‘little concerns’ about judicial philosophy and temperment.
i am a pragmatist. though i like seeing sotomayor squirm a wee bit, i know she will be confirmed. most likely, sotomayor won’t be any worse then the supreme she is replacing. the greater concern will be with the next nomination that The iOne will give us.
frankly, i would much rather my elected officials show this kind of passion on working to kill cap and tax and nationalized healhcare. it’s the economy killers that need to be shut out completely. her rapid eye-blinking is annoying and just listening to chuck schumer and patrick leahy makes me sick.

I think way too much has been made over this “wise Latina” comment. The Republicans are looking like the racists in this hearing not Sonia. Republicans are also making too much of the empathy issues as prescribed by our president, Barack Obama. OF COURSE empathy is a good trait for a judge! It’s one of the distinquishing qualities of human beings. To deny this is to deny humans are human.

Well, in my opinion, Sotomayor comes out of this looking pretty good. Good ol’ boy Jeff Sessions is the one that looks ridiculous. He’s a closet racist anyway. His borderline remarks cost him his shot at a federal judgeship back in the day. Now this just looks like pettiness on his part. He’s a water-eyed little fellow, isn’t he? Huffington Post pointed out that it took all of 4 minutes and 38 seconds before one of the Republican senators mentioned the “wise Latina” remark. Hilarious! If that’s all they’ve got, they’ve got nothin’.
This haranguing of an Hispanic woman is going to hurt the GOP. They’re already in trouble with women and Latinos, and the longer they drag this out, the more they hurt their standing with those two voting demographics.

You obviously dont have a clue as to the properties a judge should use when deciding a verdict. “Empathy” is not one of them.
Justice doesn’t have empathy for anyone. It rules strictly upon ” law ” and that’s really the only way that our system can function properly under the Constitution.
I think you bone heads are confusing empathy with sympathy. Empathy is the ability to understand anothers perspectivr. What they do with that understanding is a different question. It should not be applied in the sense that latina woman reserves the right to judge outside the law based on empathy for her heritage or sex
For example, acourt heard arguments about the strip search of middle school students and how it violated the 4th amendment. A judge could feel empathy for the humiliation the student went thru and the ones whjo had to perform the search. Empathy helps figurer out what’s at stake for “ALL” participants, It doesn’t resolve who should win the case.
And if you’re going to use “HITLERESQUE” as some sort of metaphor for anyone besides the monster himself you’re really not ayone who should be allowed to use the word “empathy” as if you understood what it means at all.

Theres no doubt shes an activist, all judges are to a certain extent, some more than others, some barely noticable and up to ones perception.
SS leaves no question that she is an activist when her ” wise latina ” statement was not just a one time slip of the tongue but instead a repeated and reinforced message over the years. Add the Ricci case to that and you’ve got what is no doubt and activist judge.
