This 29-year-old mother of one was charged in Federal Court Monday and arrested (also known as detained) for lying to federal officials. She decided to recruit for ISIS via Facebook and other social media. Fox News stated
Heather Elizabeth Coffman of Henrico County made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court on Monday and was ordered held until a Wednesday afternoon detention hearing, court documents show. She is charged with making a materially false statement about an offense involving terrorism.
According to an affidavit filed by an FBI agent, Coffman promoted the organization known as ISIS on several Facebook accounts she maintained under various names. Those posts prompted a sting by the agent, who posed as an Islamic State backer.
The Facebook accounts promoting murder and sedition were a bad idea. Lying to the feds who have a 93% conviction rate is a new level of what can only be termed nuclear grade stupid. She now is looking at 5-8 years in a federal institution for denying she made these pages in addition to any other charges pending. Her reasoning according to ABC News:
According to an affidavit filed by an FBI agent, Coffman promoted the organization known as ISIS on several Facebook accounts she maintained under various names. Those posts prompted a sting by the agent, who posed as an Islamic State backer.
Setting up a facebook account saying yay terrrorists does tend to catch the interest of the FBI, NSA and other similar parties.
The agent wrote in the affidavit that Coffman talked about making arrangements for a man she identified as her husband to train and fight with the Islamic State in Syria. She said the man, who is not named in court papers, backed out when the couple split up.
She dated a man who she called her husband. not her actual spouse as she and her son lived with her parents. Interesting that she makes these claims. So is it her real life or is it just fantasy?
Coffman offered to make similar arrangements for the FBI agent and a fictitious friend. The agent told Coffman that his friend wanted to fight with the terrorist group and become a “shaheed,” or martyr. The agent said Coffman encouraged him to support the friend’s plan and offered to use her contacts to help him achieve his goal.
What contacts? Again the FBI would find that language interesting and disturbing. She then claimed she got her sister to like this crap and her dad got a little angry. A little angry? Really? Gee why would that be? My late father would have called the FBI himself if one of his kids did something this dumb. Her attorney had this to say from US News:
“As far as I know, she hasn’t traveled anywhere. Her connections with the outside world would be on the Internet,” Schmidt said, according to the Post. “I imagine you can get into trouble on the Internet, but I imagine you can also think a lot more’s going on than really is. If nothing else, this is certainly a cautionary tale about the Internet.”
I am thinking that part of her defense will be that she was fantasizing and not knowing that she did wrong. Problem for her is twofold: first, that one’s actions have consequences and second she has a federal case now. In conclusion, making up Facebook accounts supporting known terrorists is a very very bad idea and lying to a federal agent investigating said activity is an even worse idea. Keep the role playing to World of Warcraft or D&D people.
I suppose in a nation of over 300 million there are bound to be several million who are just flat out stupid. This moron is just one of the dumbest of the bunch.
By the way-sedition should carry a minimum of life in prison. But then again, given the actions of a certain media created fraud in the last 5 years I’m surprised the crime of sedition even exists anymore. This cretin will more likely end up being a bigwig in the Anarchist, er, Democrat, party than being put in jail in the future.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. These knuckleheads and the ones who will come back to the U.S. after fighting for ISIS should be charged immediately with treason. Period.
