he doesn’t need the money – he has many millions. he isn’t running for office – been there, done that. he isn’t playing with white house interns so he’s not parsing his ‘is’s’. and he apparently isn’t afraid of The One’s ‘paybacks’.
here are some very brief clips of vp cheney on ‘face the nation’ yesterday. he was magnificent: self assured and confident yet without the pompous arrogance we are sadly seeing today. watch the clips. you can see he isn’t afraid to say how he feels about what’s going on today in obama’s america.

i have always loved vp cheney and i’m so glad he hasn’t just disappeared. we’re probably all awate that he has in recent days had some advice for the gop – don’t moderate. i am with him on this. why even have a 2-party system if we homogenize?
and it seems vp cheney has taken on an interesting role, post bush administration, that i haven’t really seen mentioned anywhere else: he is fearlessly outspoken, patiently schooling conservatives; helping us to regroup; reminding us of the fundamental beliefs and values and ideas … what the role of government should be in our society, and our commitment to the Constitution and constitutional principles.
and he’s doing all of this in his unflappable, calming, cheney-way that drew ‘conservative loyalty’ to him in the first place.
whether it’s the infamous torture memos or colin powell’s defection, he’s not backing down to the obama thugocracy and i so like it.

Torture is ILLEGAL, under American law, and under international law. PERIOD. Even if the EIT’s saved a million lives (and it definitely did not), it is still illegal.
Aside from that, even if by some bizarre stretch of the imagination it wasn’t illegal and immoral, the fact remains:
IT DOES NOT WORK.
The experts at interrogation say that pain makes the subject clam up, and if you do “break” them, they give you bad information. It also takes LONGER to get this bad information than rapport-building does.
Not to mention the fact that it strengthens recruiting by Al Qaeda, because it simply reinforces their view of America as “evil”.
To hell with Cheney and his “I saved you”. He needs to be prosecuted. His excuses for what they authorized and he is STILL promoting mean nothing.

The majority of the idiots who thrive at sites like DU and the Koskiddies are of the (conspiracy) theory that Cheney is only trying to save himself, which makes no sense (do libs ever?) since the worst thing he could do, if that were the case, is to continue to draw attention to it.
Cheney is strongly convinced that he’s saying is the case, there’s no doubt about that. As you noted, he has nothing financially or politically to gain from it. And he’s right, the country is less safe with Dear Leader at the helm. But Americans should automatically know that when they vote a Dem/lib into office that we as a country are going to drop our guard and play the “appeasement” game. That just comes with the territory. Why citizens want to pretend as though al-Qaeda and various groups like them will go away, or that they can be reasoned with, is beyond comprehension, but they do.
It was noted on several pol sites and blogs shortly after 9-11 that a lot of libs were acting as though we weren’t even attacked, and there was mention that it seems the only way they will ever wake up would be if we were attacked again. I never took that position. I told several that it wouldn’t matter if we were attacked again, the libs still would fall back into pre 9-11 mode just as quickly as they had already done. About the only way the left would wake up is if the large cities were hit virtually day after day after day by dirty bombs and/or suicide bombers. I’m talking about on average 10-20,000 citizens killed everyday for a few months. And even then, I have my doubts if the libs would wake up.
These militant Islamics were hoping for their holy war after 9-11. Problem is enough of the Muslim world didn’t rally behind them, and not out of their desire not to as much as Bush disrupted them too quickly for them to get it together. The terrorists now know that they’re going to have to do some thing really big. Pakistan having nukes is a big prize for them, but even if they don’t get that, they’ll eventually get nukes, attack Israel, and that’ll be it. There’s going to be a world war in the ME, that whole area is ripe for revolution, it’s just a matter of when. That Dear Leader has forsaked his Constitutional duty to defend the USA will just mean that much longer and that many more lost lives it’ll take for the USA to regroup when the time comes. Because the time is coming.

Nonsense. Obama has done more to Al Qaeda recruiting through his weakness than Bush/Cheney did by bombing them into the stone age.

What a crock. Don’t lay this at Obama’s feet!!!! In the first Gulf War, Iraqi soldiers surrendered in droves. Just gave up, without a shot fired. I know. I was there.
Why? Because, having seen all those WWII movies and believing WE were the good guys, they figured they’d be treated BETTER by the Americans than by their own commanders. And for the most part, they were.
You don’t fight somebody who’s going to feed you and treat you decently, especially if your own commanders AREN’T doing that.
Today? That would NEVER, EVER happen.
It will take YEARS before it will happen again.
Bottom line – torture killed, and will keep killing, OUR troops, because our enemy will FIGHT now, and many of them would have SURRENDERED before. On top of that, we’ve made MORE enemies by killing innocent people. Those enemies will last for years, perhaps generations.

These libs just hate anyone who doesn’t view things their way, so Cheney explaining what he knows and his viewpoints upsets them because it doesn’t fall in lockstep with Dear Leader.
When you know you are in a postion that is right and eventually will once again take prominence, as Cheney knows is the case, you can just quietly go through life.
When you are insecure and frightened, as the libs have demonstrated themselves to be, you scream and rant.

Pat says: Just for the sake of argument, lets say there actually does exist a memo touting the success(es) of the Bush/Cheney EIT torture program. What difference does that make? Have we sunk so low as a society that we’ll allow torture if it proves to “work”?
Why stop with torture? Someone out there could make a strong argument that nuking the tribal areas of Pakistan would significantly harm, if not destroy, al Qaeda and a good percentage of the Taliban. Even Osama, in his cave, would be dead. Sure, there’ll be collateral damage…but it would work, right? It would make us and others in the region “safer”, at least from al Qaeda and the Taliban. Simpson above mentioned WW 2. Did not the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki “work” for its intended purpose? This is the same logic Dick Cheney is using isn’t it?
Cheney started this argument over whether torture “works” or not. If Cheney is going to be in our faces now ever day of the week spouting his brand of safety, Cheney should extend his flawed logic to situations other than torture. I want to see him on national tv saying we should kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of civilians if that makes us “safer”.

Cheney said in the 1st video how dangerous the detainees are and that they shouldn’t come to the U.S. Here is what I don’t understand: we have dangerous, convicted criminals in prisons all over our country. People who have committed heinous crimes and been charged and tried and found guilty. No one cries about how dangerous it is to have them in our backyard prisons. Many of them are not U.S. citizens either.
Why are these prisoners — who haven’t been charged or tried or convicted — so exceptionally dangerous?

if they are moved to the usa they would have to be tried, released and deported, or simply released.
since they are combatants not criminals, many would end up being let go. since many cannot be deported because they would face death in their home country, they would have to be released in the usa.

Remember, 4 1/2 years of 911 was planned on Clintons watch after numerous attacks on his watch, all of which he did nothing about.
911 was not just a one day incident. Every day planning it was a part of the entire plan. Sept.11th 2001 was just one day out of 5 years.
You’d think after the Cole, our embassies, and the first attack on the towers Billy boy would of done something. Instead he shrunk our military and intelligence gathering capabilities.

Wait, are you saying it was the movies that coerced them into surrendering and not the sight of an incredibly superior military ?

You dont give our forces too much credit, do you ?
I wonder how many of those Iraqis had actually ever seen an American movies since it was known that before 5 or 6 years ago no Iraqi was ever allowed to own a satellite dish and most programming was state controlled. As a matter of fact I think Saddam and his buddies were the only ones in Iraq who ever got to watch American movies.

Then again, if torture didnt work, and its been proven, why has it been used in every war ever ?

Oh good lord – where you born in 2001? You must have been to make that kind of comment. WTC bombing, 2 American embassies in Africa, the USS Cole – all happened during Clinton’s “watch”. And what did he do in any of those attacks on American citizens?
Nothing.
You could even say that the disaster he caused in Somalia emboldened terrorists around the world – showed them that Americans were no longer the strong military they once were.
It’s thanx to Bush/Cheney that perception was changed. Not one al Qaeda-sponsored attack against American interests since 2001.
And I’m afraid that will change under Obama. He is showing these very people that, once again, Americans are more interested in holding hands and singing Kumbaya than in defending herself against any threat, anywhere. I fear that Joe Biden was right when he said Obama would be tested in the first 6 months.

Dick Cheney is a refreshing voice of reason…and I’m glad he is out there saying what needs to be said. Did you hear his popularity is rising?

I am not sure if any of the commentors ever served in the military or not but guessing from some of the comments most likely not. Come on people, surely you must know that 9/11 was not some evil plot by the Bush admistration, these terroist by their own admission were planning for years. Oh, by the way Osama’s head could have been delivered during the Clinton era, but let me think, oh yea he was to busy golfing to be bothered. Having been recalled to active duty right after 9/11 and priveledged to collect intel gave me an insight to how long we were in the cross hairs of al Quada and the Taliban. I love the fact that Former VP Chaney’s only motive for speaking out is his deep love for this country, which I question Obama’s..lest we forget that he has yet to prove his US citizenship along with his decisions (if you look closely at them you will see close simularities to socalism…read your history). Some will say, “he’s full of —-, but I encourage you to take a trip to a little villiage in Kenya and talk with Obama’s family first hand or would you rather do the typical and be a part of the problem and not the solution….Don’t hate the messenger, unless intentions such as the 9/11 operatives did!
