Sunrise to sundown, the perpetually petulant portside has their daily outrage and today it’s about the renovation of the east wing of the White House.
President Trump announced the groundbreaking for the new ballroom yesterday afternoon and the cacophony from Pravda media, Democrats and other lefties on social media took TDS-induced insanity to new levels.
Construction began Monday on the new $250 million White House ballroom, a passion project of President Donald Trump.
Trump is lending his lifetime of experience in real estate business to construct the ballroom, the future site of important state functions, such as parties and receptions for visiting foreign dignitaries. (snip)Construction of the ballroom is being funded by the president and through private donations, with no money from the U.S. taxpayer.

See? Amy is so mad that The Donald woke up on the sunny side of the grass this morning that she ignores that this renovation is not costing taxpayers a dime. Unlike the made-to-fail Obamacare she voted for in 2010.
The east wing is connected but separate from the White House, but Pravda media would have one believe that “history is being torn to shreds”.
Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski slammed President Donald Trump’s “grotesque” partial demolition of the White House’s East Wing, protesting to the president that he doesn’t own the property and that he was tearing “history” to “shreds.”
Scarborough began: “ We’re fortunate to have scenes, this morning, in front of the facade of the White House that is not being obliterated as Donald Trump, who promised that he was not going to take a wrecking ball to the existing structure, has taken a wrecking ball to existing structure.”
Is Joe that stupid or does he believe everyone he talks to is? Trump is not touching The White House. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the Executive Residence, is not part of construction. Does anyone know any American history anymore? Start with the featured image at the top of this post — The original drawing from 1790’s from architect James Hoban. Hoban was kept pretty busy as the after the original White House was built, it was burned to the ground in 1814 by the British. He had to rebuild it. In the 1820’s Hoban added the South Portico (the icon view of the White House in most pictures) and later the North Portico (seen above). And still, the White House was not encased in any sort of amber that it has remained unchanged for 200 years.
Teddy Roosevelt built the West Wing.
Taft made the Executive Office oval.
FDR added the entire East Wing and included an indoor pool for himself.
Truman gutted the entire White House.
Nixon added a bowling alley.

Truman had to gut the place to keep it from collapsing, so of the original residence, nothing “original” existed of the interior. It was FLOTUS Jackie Kennedy who touched just about everything in the interior to bring back the historical look in the rooms. The Blue Room, done in French Empire style, is a good example of her restoration, even to locating some of the gilded furniture ordered by James Monroe.
Gilding, of course, sets off the Lefties who hiss like vampires when seeing how the Trump Oval office more resembles the Blue Room than, say, Obama’s Library.

Wfjag says: The real problem that Dems have with the renovation is that it’s being paid for by private funds that were raised to do it. That really limits the opportunities for graft.
Oh, and Amy, if you are really serious about keeping some of the ObamaCare subsidies for people who buy the now mandatory health insurance on the Exchange, then vote for the Clean CR and go into the Congressional Committees and present your ideas one at a time on the record. Don’t try to hide all the attempts to pay off your special interest friends in one huge, unexamined bill – that wasn’t even presented to, much less passed, by the House as a first step.

First of all, FDR was president when? Oh that’s right, about 80 years ago. Is he still alive? No? Then isn’t that, *gasp* history? What about all the other presidents mentioned? Doesn’t that make even the East Wing of historical? Or is it just historical based on who built what?
Secondly, this house doesn’t belong to Trump. The whole point of a president is that he isn’t a king. And the whole point of the White House is that it belongs to the people. And yes, that includes Democrats. Any changes to the building have to go through a whole process that includes codes and permits. By all accounts from reporters and those who have looked it up, none of that has happened, nor could it because the government is shut down. The National Park, of which the White House is a part, knew nothing about this. (Throwing in a quick “release the Epstein files!” here.) Also Trump promised none of the building would be destroyed. I guess that’s just another lie.
He can’t do this legally. Also having donors pay for something average citizens won’t have access to is the height of corruption and kleptocracy. It’s what dictators do. And Putin. And *checks notes* Hitler when he has a large reception hall built attached to the Reich Chancellery. Do you honestly think average citizens will be able to enter it? If you do, there’s a bridge I’d love to sell you!
Also it’s just so cute that this author is over here poo-pooing people being upset when many of the women who write for this blog practically lost their minds when Confederate monuments were taken down. But I guess it’s only history worth preserving when you support it or if your orange führer wants it done.
