“we are the ones we’ve been waiting for”. (screams, tears, applause) “we are the change that we seek”.
yikes.
barack obama said that to a crowd of about 25,000 frenzied supporters recently. he also said “we are the hope for the future and we can remake this world as it should be”.
believe in me and i will not only redeem you but your country as well — ok so he didn’t say that but his speeches, campaign rallies, and public appearances almost feel like massive religious services with an undercurrent of a messianic cult that frankly, is just a wee bit creepy.
his followers are dazzled and messmerized though they can’t name one legislative accomplishment he has had in his 2 (yes, just 2) years in the US senate. even jake tapper of ABC news has dubbed his supporters “obama worshippers”!
his campaign seems to be all about how wonderful he is and his beautiful promises of a hopeful future. based on what senator? you have no paper trail of success – no concrete accomplishments in governance. you simply talk pretty and your last name isn’t clinton. many democrats are hopeful that this spread of “obama worship” will continue though election day and into his inauguration. i suspect he can maintain the “obama spell” until then and after that the awakening. and it will be a great one.
