A quote: “To survive it is often necessary to fight and to fight you have to dirty yourself.” ~~ George Orwell

I’ll start with a story …

*******************************

Buckboard loaded and settling with Gus when his eyes widened at the alarm. He shoves me. “GO! Don’t worry about this ‘til afterwards” … if …

I leap on Jigsaw turning him towards home. We skid into the yard as Ruth is herding the kids to the bolthole. She throws a shift towards me, eyes wide but mouth set stubborn.

Dayum, I love her. I slap Jigsaw free. Shedding clothes, I go down the stairs, closing the all-wood door above.

Cloud is early this year. It will leave no worked metal behind.

We huddle together in the dark and wait.

*****************************

Now, it’s your turn.

  • Cameron says:

It was a small church in the middle of nowhere that could be any random church in flyover country. The fact it was small and the parishioners old made it a target for the crackdown on churches that spread “disinformation.”

The talking heads giggled about Christofascists being dragged into the modern day. But if we’d had real reporters, they would have learned something.

The men in that church had spent a lifetime killing for the government. Their children and grandchildren knew how to run an insurgency. Within two days of the church’s destruction, those responsible learned what fear really meant.

  • Leigh Kimmel says:

The wind sweeps over the open country, whistling through the broken windows of an old church. Once this was a thriving land of farms and agricultural communities, but eight years of guerilla warfare has left it battered and broken.

But in the end our community proved the more cohesive. When push came to shove, we hung together while they fell apart, unable to work together without someone to compel them.

    Now it’s time to rebuild.
