Sunday Morning Cafe Cocktails

Mimosa, Bloody Mary, nice flute of champagne — or maybe a favorite tipple in your coffee. Make yourself one and join me at our own Algonquin Round Table, the spirit of Dorothy Parker abides.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! Here we are, the middle of April. In [dis]honor of tomorrow our Sunday repast includes not just flutes of champagne, but plenty of stronger fare, especially knowing how the current administration has lied through its teeth – yet again – that all those new IRS agents and subsequent audits would surely never touch any family earning under $400K. But truth and honesty have never been leftwing values. There is a sumptuous array of brunch offerings — do try the Belgian waffles topped with fresh berries. A sweet counterpoint to the killer Bloody Marys being mixed. Cheers, mates, and let’s get to it.

OJ and Black Supremacists

The long overdue death of OJ Simpson has been revealing.

The black racialist doesn’t want an ‘honest conversation’. That conversation started with the abolitionist movement and continued with the Civil War and 1964 Civil Rights act. Any “inequities” now are the product of culture and a political grifter class, of which Ashley Allison is a member in good standing. Allison doesn’t want an honest conversation, she and her ilk demand capitulation.

When people tell you what they really think, believe them.

How to handle the public tantrums of spoiled children

I hope other college presidents are taking notes of how to handle pro-Hamas activists.

Remember, Gavin Newsom is running for President

This is your Sunday check-in on the latest Californication. This time, a proposal out of Frisco (of course) that would allow customers to sue grocery stores for closing. I’m not kidding.

A pair of progressive San Francisco lawmakers are pushing a bill that would allow residents in the crime-ravaged city to sue grocery stores that close up shop if they don’t give six months’ notice.

The proposal by San Francisco Board of Supervisors members Dean Preston and Aaron Peskin would require business to either find a successor grocer or work out a plan with residents in the neighborhood to ensure the availability of supermarket options.

The Grocery Protection Act – which is based on a proposal the board approved in 1984 that was vetoed by then-San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein — comes amid a rash of retail theft fueled by the city’s drug and homelessness crisis that has led to several business closures.

Well, I don’t know about you, but stuff like punishing businesses while refusing to arrest and prosecute thieves sure makes me want to open a business in the Asylum by the Bay.

Karma comes for Erwin Chemerinsky

Act I:

Act II:

Act III?

Who knows? Chemerinsky is a leftist who just got mugged, in his own home, by some of his own pro-Hamas students. Outside of a rather meek response to people who showed up at his home to harass and intimidate him and the rest of his guests, I wonder if he sees any connection between his open bragging about breaking non-discrimination laws and the willingness of the pro-Hamas home invaders to break trespass laws.

Limitarianism — the genteel approach to stealing your property

Another brilliant idea from the death-cult Dutch.

Ingrid Robeyns is a professor at Utrecht University, where she specializes in political philosophy and ethics. She’s the author of Limitarianism: The Case Against Extreme Wealth, a new book which argues for rational limits on how much money a single person can amass. Robeyns explains how the superrich keep everyone else poor, how large concentrations of wealth damage democracy and the environment, and how “limitarian” public policies can become a reality.

Reading the interview, Robeyns easily reveals, despite her protests, her inner Diana Moon Glampers. The interview is littered with her treating income and wealth as interchangeable terms. She not only wants to ban billionaires, but multi-millionaires. She lifts a pinky finger, sips her tea and states people can live quite comfortably on less than a few million. Goodness, since she enjoys her life just nicely on her professor’s salary, why should anyone be allowed to earn more? You’ll just stick all those extra gold coins in a swimming pool and swim in it. How dare you?

As they say, those that can do, do. Those who can’t do, teach.

Your Sunday smile

Promises made. Promises kept.

The year was 1978: Prime Minister Aldo Moro had been kidnapped in Italy, the US Senatorial proceedings were broadcast on the radio for the first time, and Patrick Moriarty was teaching his junior high science class about solar eclipses.

Explaining their trajectories, the path of totality, and other such details, the class took a look at which upcoming eclipses would pass over their hometown of Rochester, New York.

“Hey, circle that one on April 8th, 2024,” Moriarty recalled telling his students. “We’re going to get together on that one.”

Two years ago Moriarty created a Facebook account to try and track down students to attend the eclipse party in 2024 that he promised his students. And it worked.

But the group soon circulated among former students who kept up connections, and hundreds expressed interest in the event. Soon plans began to take shape, and Moriarty hired a local pizzeria to cater the event, and bought 130 pairs of eclipse glasses.

Then the big day came, and the head-spinning reconnection began with all the students, whose faces Mr. Moriarty mostly did not remember, but whose names he did. The students came from all over the country, with children, with life stories, and with 45 years of life experiences to share.

Bravo, sir.

And here we are, at the close of our Sunday together. The weather is soft and gardens are brimming with early blooms. Please go enjoy the rest of your Sunday and let’s get together again next week. Cheers!

Given the tuition of that school, I think some of the parents of the suspended students are calling their lawyers to have the punishment overturned. But kudos to that president and in all honesty, this should have been done back in the 60s.

    her inner Diana Moon Glampers

OK, bonus points for a good literary reference that younger people won’t quite understand. And people like her can’t understand that making wealth illegal will not suddenly cure poverty.

The video with David Hogg should have been in the Sunday smile as well. And good for that lady to challenge him so openly.

Then she suspended them and had them arrested.
Only one change that would make this acceptable to me: EXPEL them. There’s no reason for suspension, not even to determine who might have been more guilty. Nope. EXPEL them all and have them arrested.

I hope other college presidents are taking notes of how to handle pro-Hamas all student activists.

would allow customers to sue grocery stores for closing
My answer to that would be to form some foreign venture capital group to buy the store. Then they shut the store down and go insolvent themselves. Nobody left to sue. And you walk away with the worth of the business.
Oh, and California ends up with what it deserves: fewer businesses of any sort and a lot of very unhappy, unemployed people.

And, the science class reunion was a pretty cool story. The people who really did get taught well, remember the ones who taught them. And, even if they don’t do anything cool like this, thank them and respect them.
