Recently the New Brunswick faculty council at Rutgers University protested having Condoleezza Rice as their commencement speaker. Fox News commentator, Juan Williams, described it as another example of the left’s “hatred and bigotry against African-Americans who dare to challenge liberal orthodoxy.” Fortunately, Rutgers University President, Robert Barchi, has a pair and refused to cave to the demands of the intolerant faculty council.
A similar experience happened last year when Dr. Ben Carson, a world famous Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon was scheduled to be the Commencement Speaker for Johns Hopkins University. Carson was forced to step down because liberals at the school were so outraged that Carson dared to criticize Obamacare and because he said he opposed gay marriage.
Wait! You mean that Carson, an African-American, wasn’t in lockstep with the liberal expectation that all blacks must worship everything related to Obama? He wasn’t all gung-ho for gay marriage? Then all his accomplishments mean nothing because all black people MUST be liberal. That’s the liberal way of thinking.
Juan Williams wrote:
I am not a conservative but I have spoken out for years against the staggering amount blind hatred directed at black conservatives by liberals.
Liberals are shockingly quick to demean and dismiss brilliant black people like Rice, Carson, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), Professor Walter E. Williams and economist Thomas Sowell because they don’t fit into the role they have carved out for a black person in America.
Black Americans must be obedient liberals on all things or risk being called a race traitor or an Uncle Tom.
Recently at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference), Ben Carson gave a stirring speech. Immediately liberals began tweeting that he was an “Uncle Tom,” a “token,” a “house slave.” Why would they say such things about such a well-respected, renowned and educated man? The answer is simple: because he is a conservative black. To many liberals, the label “conservative” makes all their racist comments a-okay. And their minds are so closed that they have no inkling of their absolute hypocrisy and deeply rooted racism.
I could write page after page of examples of black conservatives being ostracized, criticized and chastised for daring to believe something other than what the left has decided they should believe. It’s really quite incredible how liberals lump all African-Americans into such a tiny box of thinking.
In politics, black conservatives are now judged by liberals based solely on the color of their skin. If you are black, liberals don’t allow you to believe in conservative principles. If you dare to think outside their prescribed box, then you’re ripe for the most vile and vicious verbal attacks imaginable. Libs will do all they can to silence you. Liberals have ramped up their intolerance to a level that makes discussion impossible. When it comes to black conservatives, the liberal mind has been narrowing for many years, and it appears to finally be closed completely.
Melanie, to this day, the Klu Klux Klan lies just under the skin of every Regressively Liberal Democrat, north, south, east or west. Even as they campaigned for obama, one of them, Biden, I believe, or Reid, stated, in an almost astonished way, that BHO was “very articulate”, while I think Schumer said that 0 was “clean”. It was like they had been surprised that 0 was capable of being “like a white person while looking so black”…they all sounded like small town rednecks from some Hollyweird movie about sharecroppers. But, he was silver tongued enough to cause them to kick Hillary to the curb.
“Fortunately, Rutgers University President, Robert Barchi, has a pair and refused to cave to the demands of the intolerant faculty council.”
This is rare indeed. I teach in a community college, and it has been my experience that college and university administrators usually fall into two categories: spineless cowards and lynch mob demagogues. To find someone who actually believes in academic freedom and is willing to back up that belief with actions – wow!
Melanie, it’s called the “liberal plantaion”. And they insist that all blacks must stay on it.
(Also, contrast people like Ben Carson and Condoleeza Rice with one of the shinng stars of the iberal plantation: Shela Jackson Lee. According to her latest outburst of insipid ignorance, the constitution has been around for 400 years, evidently, and it says you can’t pass a law that says the president has to enforce the laws that are passed. In her defense, she did *not* say anything aout Guam tipping over.)
*plantation
Y’all really need a preview function.
haha!!! *Guam*
Oh, and “Sheila.” Fixed that for ya. 😉
Heh. Yeah……. That’s why I need the preview function.
Also, iberal = liberal and aout = about
On the plus side, I did manage to type “insipid ignorance” properly.
Just another thought to add to the conversation …
Consider that some measure of the outrage is financially driven. Dollars count. In Obama’s backyard – Chicago – disagreement is punished by withdrawal of funding. When it comes time for NIH grants, do these folks want to be remembered as the campus that bit the hand that fed it?
Here in Chicago, we have a strong business community with some very smart folks doing some very smart things. Yet there is no real Republican opposition or presence. In private, if you ask these smart folks why this is so, they’ll tell you that the price of opposition would be loss of business and increased hassles with permits and licensing.
Chicago has come to 1600, indeed.
By golly, it’s an outrage! What is happening to this country, this world? To have to sit in an audience and listen to accomplished, skilled professionals; to have to listen to them give their thoughtful, reasoned, reflective speeches; to hear persons who don’t name-call and demonize others, well, why put people such a tortuous experience, especially academics and college graduates? What is this world coming to???
