From PPOTUS‘s proselytization today on imminent actions in Syria:
“But having made my decision as Commander-in-Chief based on what I am convinced is our national security interests, I’m also mindful that I’m the President of the world’s oldest constitutional democracy. I’ve long believed that our power is rooted not just in our military might, but in our example as a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. And that’s why I’ve made a second decision: I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American People’s representatives in Congress. Yet, while I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization, I know that the country will be stronger if we take this course, and our actions will be even more effective.”
And this gem…..
“We all know there are no easy options. But I wasn’t elected to avoid hard decisions. And neither were the members of the House and the Senate. I’ve told you what I believe, that our security and our values demand that we cannot turn away from the massacre of countless civilians with chemical weapons. And our democracy is stronger when the President and the people’s representatives stand together.”
Oh, where do I freaking begin?
First and foremost, we as a collective are a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. We strive for democracy in our actions, sure, but we would not have an electoral college were we a democratic representative. -25, Barry.
And really, he wasn’t elected to avoid hard decisions? You mean like investigating Benghazi and those responsible for making that disastrous video that caused it? Or Fast and Furious? Maybe the IRS scandal? Those aren’t hard decisions, I suppose. /sarc
Tsk tsk…. -100, Barry.
As for constitutionality, considering we have yet to see proof of his works on constitutional law, I’ll go ahead and throw out there that he is LOST in that area. It would behoove him to read the Constitution, first and foremost. There is a little passage in the Book of Freedom I like to call the War Powers Clause, somewhere around, oh, Article I, Section 8, Clause 11, that vests in the Congress the power to declare war, stating:
Congress shall have Power to declare War…
Now, I realize the past five years out of congress have been a blur to PPOTUS, what with his ensuring his subjects are following the Constitution to the letter via the NSA and all, and he may have forgotten how that pesky document which “constrains” him works since he was working so hard voting “present” when he WAS there. It’s tough work trying to play a fiddle AND fundamentally transform a nation. His lapse in memory is understandable. Still, -50, Barry.
So, while we wee folk sit here and become enraptured with his deft bow work on the violin, perhaps we should just also take the advice that bastion of knowledge Frau Pelosi gave and and just go to war in Syria to see what’s in it. It isn’t as if we don’t have a bunch of other irons in the fire and DoD funding is being shredded.
Makes perfect sense.
Obsessively grammatically correct and unapologetically politically incorrect Mom, friend, mad scientist, Papist, and bibliophilic conservative hippie with an internet connection.
Wait! He’s a constitutional lawyer! He MUST know what he’s talking about! er…now, where are those grades??
