Fifty years ago humans did more than just gaze up at the moon. Ever wonder if we’ll ever go back? Or what back will lead to? This Friday, you have 100 words and this image to challenge your imagination.
I’ll start with a story …

“First right,” Jan waved the brochure, “This way, Stan!”
He reluctantly trailed behind her. They’d scrimped and saved for this vacation. Bragging rights would last for years, yet on the shuttle Jan talked of little else but this exhibit.
The room opened out, the ceiling soaring overhead, an honor guard at the far side window. As they approached, Stan looked beyond the soldiers.
The suit with bones, the skull exposed in the helmet, then a hologram of a smiling face, cycling over and over.
“The Armstrongs got fucked,” Stan thought, “when they agreed to the reinterment of Neil at DisneyLuna.”

In Florida, that Pluto costume was HOT! At least here the suit has built in air-con, hopping down from that last step every hour on the hour is easy in 1/6th gravity, and the bratty kids can’t smash their melting ice-cream-cones in your crotch.
Years in S.T.E.M. programs. Space camp. Robotics club. Multiple degrees in engineering and, literally, rocket science. Jen Thakur was stoked. In five minutes her craft would be on the ground. In minutes she would be the first woman on the moon. Unfortunately, seconds before her historic landing, Jen’s craft was destroyed by the First Order….
I keep a globe of starlight by my keychain on the shelf
to shine into my soul and stir the dreams within myself
Of maybe but might become, of hidden seas where mermaids sigh,
of far-off place beyond horizons unseen by human eye.
Oh I dream impossible, and I hope never been,
Of galaxies all spiral, of suns and worlds that spin.
I stretch my hand out upward, as if to hold these galaxies
For perhaps, in all the vastness, it’s never seen anything like me.
