Hating Obamacare: The Affordable Care Act Has Another Opponent, Unions!

As the train wreck of Obamacare continues to be rolled out, suspended, postponed, changed, opposition is only gaining strength. It was universally expected that Obama’s landmark healthcare legislation would continue to be the target of vehement opposition from the Right and from employers, both large and small. However, the Affordable Care Act has a new set of unexpected and powerful dissenters, proving that the healthcare act is ACTUALLY the WORSE thing for EVERYONE. Not only has the tangled mess of the law vexed small business owners and threatened the privacy of Americans, now even the unions hate it!

Last month, the leaders of three major U.S. unions issued a letter to pressure Democratic leaders in Congress. Not only do the unions claim the current ACA will “threaten the very health and wellbeing” of many Americans, they claim their vision of affordable care is back to haunt them:

Like millions of other Americans, our members are front-line workers in the American economy. We have been strong supporters of the notion that all Americans should have access to quality, affordable health care. We have also been strong supporters of you. In campaign after campaign we have put boots on the ground, gone door-to-door to get out the vote, run phone banks and raised money to secure this vision.
Now this vision has come back to haunt us.

This sends a clear message to the Obama administration. If some of your most powerful supporters are so strongly opposed to the legislation that will be the legacy of presidency isn’t there something wrong? This is simply another piece of evidence that Obamacare is ultimately unfair, unaffordable and most importantly, pretty much impossible to implement.

The biggest complaint from the unions is that employers are cutting hours because Obamacare offers incentives to keep the workweek under 30 hours. The administration dismisses the tidal wave of complaints about reduced hours purely “anecdotal”.

But this is hardly the only thing Americans should be complaining about. In addition to the list of things that have gone awry, it was reported last week that the security and privacy measures that have been taken to protect the personal information of Americans are months behind schedule. The primary pillar of Obamacare, which allows Americans to buy insurance on state exchanges, is due open on October 1. There is little hope that security measures will be ready by then.

The most likely serious security breach would be identity theft, in which a hacker steals the social security numbers and other information people provide when signing up for insurance.

So not only will you probably be offered insurance premiums that are 30-40% more expensive than what you’re used to, your identity could be stolen and your hours cut!

Who’s excited for October 1st?

As we continue to watch the unfolding of Obamacare, all that has surfaced is widespread and serious problems. From delays to privacy concerns, to undue burdens on small business, all the Affordable Care Act has done is proven itself unworkable. Although the administration will no doubt stand by the act, the pressure from unions raises the stakes for Congress, making it impossible for those who supported it to continue counting it as a success.
