Over the past several decades, and especially over the last nine years, we’ve see the Left try to problematize masculinity. Peak redefinition of what masculinity was to look like was the legacy media’s tongue-bathing of the Harris campaign and spending untold column inches touting Doug Emhoff and Tampon Tim as examples of real masculinity.

Yes, really.

Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson on his podcast Thursday broke down what he said was Democrats’ “idea” of how “real masculine men” are expected to behave, and that includes what he said was their destruction of traditional masculinity. (snip)

(VDH) discussed how Democrats have rejected “traditional key men,” saying Emhoff and Walz have become key role models for women on the left.

“As I understand the subtext is on the left, that they are rejecting traditional key man masculinity on the right. So they don’t like the Dana White, the Joe Rogan, the Mixed Martial Arts, all of that group,” Hanson said. “But apparently they have an idea of a more sensitive, caring masculinity that when you look at these real men, they look endomorphic. Endomorphic is not a slur, Jack. It just means a body type where they’re invertebrate.”

VDH nailed the Leftwing male in one word …

Invertebrate.

It’s a posture we’ve seen time and again from these oozing carbuncles who just want us just all to get along, regardless of the number of broken bodies and lives left in the wake of really bad actors who are too valuable a constituency for the Left.

Can you say, the New Orleans terrorist? How about the swooning by fangirls of all sexes swirling around assassin Luigi Mangione? Can you say:

And what did the persecution of hero Daniel Penny by poltroon Alvin Bragg do to influence the expression of Vertebrate Masculinity in New York? Debrina Kawam could not be reached for comment.

VDH is correct when he observes that Leftwing invertebrate masculinity is about males ceding authority or decision making to females. This has been the underlying conceit of 2nd and 3rd wave [left] feminism. When women were deemed the top of the Marxist hierarchy, permission to behave like lounge lizard males was granted while decrying women who chose differently. Ironically, while tons of bile was spilled in books, magazines, and seminars over family women as Stepford Wives, what these women demanded were Stepford Husbands.

Not that this has disappeared at all. Even as this kind of female supremacy, aka toxic femininity, has made leftwing women sink further into unhappiness and mental illness, we still get the GirlBoss template tossed up as the solution to women’s woes — from titles like “Why men should give their wives a cheat pass this Christmas” to articles placing the relationship blame on the rom-coms of the 1980s.

These movies also taught way too many people that being in a relationship is everything. Thank goodness the movie Frozen bucked that trend. (snip)

Rom-coms were great at tricking women into seeing the best in awful men and tricking decent men into being losers. These movies (and their toxic messages) wrecked the love lives and dating mentalities of millions of people. I don’t think that I’m alone when I say I believe the toxic romantic comedies of 20 years ago primed a lot of us for miserable dating lives.

Of course, if you have a miserable dating life, it ain’t your fault.

Dear lord.

Meanwhile, the assumed position of doormat — “to me it’s the right thing to do, support women … we lift up women, we support women, whether it is pay equity, child care, family leave, and all of these issues that [are in] this post-Dobbs hellscape,” Doug Emhoff … not only engenders contempt in the GirlBoss but such a public supine position also gives these men a social justice pass to cheat. As VDH observes:

“All of their sins are washed away. It’s kind of a substitute, a surrogate Christianity. And in that wokeness or sensitivity or feminism or whatever the ism is, it tells you that if you accept the tenets of belief in sensitive masculinity and you wore your entire life with toxic masculinity, then as part of that penance, you’re allowed these sins that are washed away,”

And that’s the real rub of the invertebrate male. He gets to engage in all manner of masculine sin as long as he has a handful of indulgences bought with the proper political beliefs.

If nothing else, Nov 5th demonstrated that more than half of the nation has grown weary of it. They voted for a return to men with chests. And spines.
